  • In  June 2009, we did an investigative story IIPM - best only in claims?, which discussed among other things, the validity of degrees offered by IMI (a Belgian institute IIPM tied up with, to award MBA/BBA degrees to IIPM students). Students must know that IIPM cannot award recognised BBA./MBA degrees since it is not approved by AICTE/ UGC.

The tie-up with IMI, Belgium was to overcome this handicap. Subsequent to the publication of our story, on June 18, 2009, IIPM brought out advertisements mentioning degrees to be offered by University of Buckingham, UK and not from IMI, Belgium. We  cross-checked with the University of Buckingham and published another article in July 2009 issue, which debunked this claim, too.

IIPM's advertisement on Feb 1, 2010 (click on image to view full ad)

Post the publication of our second article, IIPM removed the name of University of Buckingham from the ad. However, we noticed that the name IMI had cropped up again.  Hence, we decided to take up the matter with the Rudy Derdelinckx, Director of NVAO, (the UGC/ AICTE equivalent authority for regulation of Higher Education in Belgium) to check the validity of degrees issued by IMI, Belgium. We were sincerely hoping that the accreditation/approval status of IMI has changed for the benefit of students in India and hence its re-appearence in IIPM's ads. We give below the official communication from Director, NVAO below.

Letter from  Director, NVAO  (click on image to enlarge)

The essence of the letter is as follows:

    1. The MBA/BBA degree given by IMI, Belgium is not recognised and hence not legitimate even in its country of origin, Belgium.
    2. Students in Belgium using the title ‘Master’ or ‘Bachelor’ can even be prosecuted, if it is based on a degree given by IMI.
    3. Using those titles (given by IMI, Belgium) without holding a legitimate degree is illegal in Belgium.

As this is very important information that we received from NVAO, we decided to add this advisory for information to all prospective students of IIPM.  Students can also make their own verification in the country where they wish to study/work as the rules regarding validity/prosecution/illegality may vary from country to country, though the rules are largely based on their validity from the country where the qualification originates from.

Note: Readers may look for the response  from IIPM,  which would be published as soon as it is received.

A backgrounder on the story so far:

This started off as a normal investigation, into the malaise affecting the education system and the checks and balances that need to be brought in. After all, we all know that the government cannot be a sole participant in making the youth employable and the country a prosperous one.

Everyone that we spoke to was of the unanimous opinion - while a systemic overhaul is essential to improve the quality of many bad institutions in the country, the least we could do is to protect students and parents from being misguided and misled by willful wrong-doers. There are institutes where students walk in with their eyes open and know what to expect. And there are those where they walk in, blinded - misled, misguided and misinformed, by a campaign where media, regulatory agencies and academia become willing accomplices. While we can't do much about the informed decisions, we have to take up the cause of those who were cheated, an act that robs students of their career and in a way, their life.

As we scanned the ads, spoke to experts, affected parties and counselors, we realised that one name cropped up the most - IIPM. We decided to investigate. We sent mails to all those, that IIPM draws upon to validate its claims in its advertisements, namely - journalists, editors, foreign universities, employers. We spoke to current and former students and their parents. What our investigation unravelled left us cold. Here is an institution that enjoys all the privileges of an academic institution (according to IT authorities, it claimed exemptions citing Section 10(23C) (VI) of the Income Tax act, 1961) with zero responsibility and accountability. Here is an institution that brazenly uses its power and reach to make unsubstantiated claims that play with the lives of students and parents alike. We know we are opening a Pandora's Box, but are prepared for the repercussions, knowing fully well that you, our readers are with us. We were shocked by our findings, and what you are reading is just a part of it. We await your verdict.

    BBA/MBA degrees

IIPM CLAIMS to award PG/UG degrees from IMI Belgium. We checked with NVAO, the accreditation organization of Netherlands and Flanders(Belgium) about IMI Belgium. The response from them is given below. This implies that the degree that students earn would be useless for higher education or employment anywhere in the world, where formal degrees are required.

    Dear XXXXXX
To answer your first question, I would refer to our official register of recognised institutions and degrees: http://www.highereducation.be . Please read two items in our section FAQ:- http://www.hogeronderwijsregister.be/faq/117/48 - http://www.hogeronderwijsregister.be/faq/117/49 IMI Belgium is not a recognised higher education institution (neither in the Dutch nor the French speaking part of Belgium). Since it is not recognised it cannot award recognised degrees.
In our position it is difficult to answer your second question. For us only registered institutions with accredited programmes are considered credible.
    Best regards

    Campus placement
BASED ON some of the claims about MNC employers participating in the campus recruitments at IIPM, we checked with a few of them. We are listing a few responses, of employers, who have denied having recruited from the IIPM campus from the class of 2008, though IIPM claims otherwise. There have been a few more, who did not respond and we did not pursue, as we already got a sample of what is in store. Some gave us information but refused to come on record.

    STANDARD CHARTERED BANK, says

We have hired 9 students from IIPM this year, though this was not through the campus recruitment process. These are all freshers.

    BARCLAYS, DUBAI

I have looked into the below and we at Barclays, UAE Dubai have not done any campus placement with this institute.

    DEUTSCHE BANK
    ( sms response)

Deutsche bank has no association with IIPM in terms of campus placements. We may have one or two employees from IIPM at the junior level but that's about it

    Un(en)viable International Placements
ANY B-SCHOOL that claims to have the interest of students at heart should ensure that only companies that would treat students with respect, dignity and care would be allowed in the placement process. We are listing out some of the placements facilitated by IIPM. Look at the offer details and make your own judgement.

    International collaborations
IIPM claims to  award a global certification in management for all its students from one of the leading universities of the world. Every advertisement carries the logo  of institutions like Darden, Haas, Judge etc as partnering institutions. Some ads even say the certification is from one of these universities. We wrote to each of the institution to check the veracity of IIPM's Claims. Here is what they have to say.

I'm sorry, but I am unaware of any association between the McCombs School of Business and IIPM. It is possible that they have a connection I am unaware of with a particular professor, but in any case they are not an official partner school.

I should caution that I am only responding for the McCombs School of Business. While McCombs is the only business school at the University of Texas at Austin, it is possible that they have a relationship with another college at UT-Austin. If that were the case I would not be aware of it.

Judge B School, University of Cambridge

    Hello XXXXXX
Thanks for your enquiry about the programme Judge Business School is delivering to IIPM participants.

This is a five day non-degree executive education programme delivered in Cambridge by Judge Business School.

IIPM have engaged us to deliver and the first group will commence in July 2009. There are no university qualifications awarded from Cambridge University or Judge Business School. The only certificate is a certificate of attendance which is what we provide to participants on all our programmes.

    Very best

Aislinn Ryan,Communications Manager, Judge Business School

Darden B School, Univesity of Virginia
    Dear XXXXXXX

Thanks again for your e-mail. The University of Virginia's Darden School of Business has agreed to provide a series of week-long Executive Education programs (i.e., a contracted teaching arrangement) for IIPM. Darden has no partnership agreement or tie-up with IIPM.

Along with Cambridge (Judge) and UC Berkeley (Haas), Darden will host IIPM's Executive Education program participants and deliver to them a high-quality mix of general business class sessions. No course credits at Darden or UVA are associated with this program, as IIPM is not a partner school and their participants are not taking Darden courses.

    Best regards,

Haas B School, University of California, Berkeley (UCB)

THE SLOWDOWN may have hit the revenues of the international B-schools! The desperation with which they are getting into arrangements with Indian B-Schools to lend their name as 'participating,' 'partner', 'affiliating' B -School - all to earn a few dollars more, while compromising on their ethics and professionalism left us flummoxed. And when no less than the University of Berkeley tries to wriggle out of a situation through three different mails, each a reaction to a correspondence by us and possibly IIPM as well, we are bewildered. The first said no connection what so ever, second acknowledged a client relationship and the third announced CEE sending faculty to IIPM programme (which programme?). We cannot understand what is the truth and why this progressive grovelling? (Read the mails below and form your own opinion).

XXXXX UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business is in no way affiliated or connected with IIPM.I am told this institution has been known to claim associations with top universities without any basis. One of the ways they do this is that they invite faculty to do some executive education stint and then use the university name for ever. It is possible that some Haas faculty has done work for them but the Berkeley and/or Haas name should not be associated with IIPM.

    2nd Response

XXXXX, On February 26, you wrote to verify the 'association' between the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) and the University of California. While the statement that the two are not 'affiliated' is accurate, at the time, we were unaware of a new client relationship between IIPM and the Haas School's Center for Executive Education. CEE and IIPM have a contract, the first program will begin in June and the agreement permits client institutions to say that they are 'participating' with the Haas School of Business.

In response to your inquiries about the Center for Executive Education's contract with the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM): During the duration of the agreement, IIPM, the client, may represent itself as a business school 'participating' with the Haas School of Business. Participation means IIPM has contracted with CEE to provide Haas faculty to teach courses in the IIPM program. A five-day program scheduled for January 2009 was cancelled. A five-day program is now scheduled for June 2009.

'IT IS VERY EASY FOR YOU TO ASK WHY I DON'T SPEAK UP'
Sir, I have a mom, who is a heart patient, a father who is a teacher in a school, and a village which looks up to me. It is very easy for you to ask why I don't speak up. If I do, my people would come to know I did a degree which is useless, my company will sack me, and the bank would strangulate my dad for the loan instalment.' says Ramesh*, a pass out from IIPM. Ramesh like most of us comes from one of the tier 3 towns of our country. He completed his BSc and sought salvation in an MBA. But he chose IIPM, thanks in no small measure to the full page multicolour advertisements he and his parents frequently saw, in publications they trusted for ages. He adds ruefully, 'Sir, I got a good percentile in MAT (above 90 percentile), and had offers from the best colleges. At least I would have got a recognized degree.'

'What did you learn?' I ask. 'We are frequently taught by students who passed out from the last batch and work for Planman Consulting,' said Ramesh. He fought bitterly and got placed through campus in a company based in south India. The institute promised him Delhi, the company told him that they had specifically informed the placement office of IIPM about their need for people in the south. So he was on his own again. Ramesh smiles at a thought. 'I am much better off than some of my friends who got a campus placement in companies where you are paid Rs.200 as commission for every card you sell, and no salary at all.' His bitterness creeps through. He goes on. 'Sir, 10% of MBAs secure jobs, because we are well-groomed, speak good English, and are well-connected. 50% of us are not connected but have the rest of the qualities, and struggle a bit. The remaining 40% who has neither are already in s***. So the least they can do is to keep quiet.'

Ramesh pays more than 2/3rd of his meagre salary to service his loans, lives in a cramped shanty, puts up a brave face to his doting parents, hopes for the best and keeps quiet. While relating events, the brave boy, briefly wavers and with a lump in his throat says. 'Maine yeah soch ke ayaa, yeah ek formal interaction hai. Baat karthe karthe bahout kuch bol diya.' (I came to meet you, telling myself it is a formal interaction. But as I got talking I spoke quite a lot). All of us look in different directions, and let that moment pass.

'WE WERE TAKEN FOR A RIDE'

'The IIPM had indulged in heavy advertising promising the sky and claiming to be the best management institute in the country. It was very clear in its advertisements that it will give MBA degrees from a University. We got lured by the fake ads coupled with newspaper news praising IIPM institute,' says Shiv Prasad.*
'It is only after the UGC blacklisted it that the cat came out of the bag. Now it started giving advertisements that it prepares students for BBA and MBA degrees and does not give degrees by itself. This is a clear case of cheating as we have the copy of the earlier advertisements claiming that they give degrees. Parents from Bihar, MP, Rajasthan, Punjab, Himachal, Haryana and UP are still falling prey and the institute is flourishing!
The institute has never given full receipts for the amount we paid and if given, it was under a different head. Recognition was never a concern for us, because the ad blitz was so strong we got carried away and the UGC also acted very late. Most of the parents are still not aware about the UGC controversy as the matter appeared in Delhi newspapers only.
Regarding placements, this year (2009) all students have been clearly told that the institute does not guarantee placement. Students have to look for positions on their own. Many students with campus jobs could not join as HR divisions of companies are avoiding IIPM students. Most of the students are coming back with their useless training certificates. The institute has hardly any campus placements and it does not help students find jobs elsewhere as well. Having taken a bank loan between 4 lakhs to 10 lakhs, we are ruined, and actually don't know which way to turn.' * Name changed to protect identity NOTE: Readers may look for the counter view of IIPM in the next issue, if received

     IIPM makes another claim

When we ended our investigative piece on IIPM last month, we were hoping for a response from IIPM disputing our story. We were prepared, armed with all information(some of which we published) if we were hauled up. The lack of response proves that IIPM has nothing to contest. However, there was a response,  through double page ads in media.

One of the many false claims by IIPM, that we exposed in the last issue of Careers360 (www.careers360.com), was about the BBA/MBA degrees on offer. The degrees awarded by IIPM in collaboration with IMI Belgium were in fact unrecognized. Even after the expose IIPM continued to use IMI, Belgium. As recent as 15th  June, an ad released in the Times of India mentioned the IMI degrees on offer.

On 18 June, post our exposé, we saw an ad in the Times of India and Hindustan Times, where the BBA/MBA degree was now being offered from Buckingham Business School (University of Buckingham) and no longer from IMI Belgium. Aware of the past history of the claims made by IIPM, we sent a mail to the University of Buckingham to verify this new claim. The response from the University of Buckingham left us despairing (see the mail above). The University of Buckingham's response implies that:

    1. The university of Buckingham hasn't consented to the advertisements (and the claims made in it).

2.That no such consent would be forthcoming until their programmes (IIPM's programmes) are formally accredited under the QAA guidelines.

3.That no such arrangement exists as on date.

The QAA in UK is similar to National Board of Accreditation (NBA) in India. IIPM's programmes are not accredited by NBA. We wonder, how IIPM would submit its programmes to QAA when they have refused to do the same with NBA.

So as we file this story, the students are not guaranteed of a University of Buckingham degree. We have called up the Vice- Chancellor's office of University of Buckingham on 23rd June and written to him on the 24th of June(After the response from their PR department's denial of relationship as on date on the 21st of June) but haven't recieved any response from his office.

However, we are at a loss to deal with the brazenness of these claims each bigger than the other. Is there a way to discourage such institutes from making these false claims in the name of great education? Would Mr.Kapil Sibal, the current HRD minister and one of the best lawyers of India, take an active interest to bring in some transparency to prevent any institutes' taking students for a ride? Can the regulators, government and judiciary impose certain accountability for such claims on all institutes? Or would this be another investigation that bites the dust for want of follow up and regulatory action? We have done our job. It is over to you Mr.Sibal.

Dear readers, we greatly value your suggestions, so visit us at (www.careers360.com) and give us your comments. If you need to maintain confidentiality, in a mail to the editor, at msarma@pathfinder360.co.in.

NOTE: Readers may look for the counter view of IIPM, if received. We would also carry any response received from the Vice-Chancellors' office of University of Buckingham.

  • HELLO ALL including agastya! IIPM has affiliated with Gulbarga university and it is true. BUT...... this is the ONLY true thing available. Truth is that, the other claims, that it is a regular course through IIPM in Gulbarga is all FALSE. Last years, in 2010, they were affiliated to MS university. Now they shifted to Gulbarga and rumours are there that MS university is closing and students will be offered IMI Belgium instead of MS university degree for which THEY PAID 5 LACS. Even more, the students affiliated in Gulbarga university are somehow tortured throughout the year and faculties at IIPM try their LEVEL BEST to transfer or shift the students from Gulbarga university to IMI Belgium which is owned and controlled by IIPM (which you may know is already under controversy and is not recognized even in Belgium). They advocate reasons like 1.) The exams of Gulbarga are very uncertain, 2.) If you fail in Gulbarga university paper then there is no other option while IMI has internal exams controlled by IIPM where you can pass easily, 3.) The placements for such a degree is from very low grade companies and package is below 4 lacs despite the fact that we paid more than 4.5 Lacs for our MBA course from Gulbarga at IIPM. They advocated that companies do not look at degrees but your knowledge etc. and IMI Belgium has good placements. Knowing these reasons, more than 80% of our class have shifted to IMI Belgium degree from Gulbarga since the start of semester in September, 2011. During the start of the semester, there were hardly one or two students in IMI begium in a class of 50 students but now ONLY 10-15 are left in Gulbarga university. I think that by the end of the 4th or last semester, only I will be left in Gulbarga university. IIPM is most probably minting more profit by getting these students shifted to IMI Belgium which is fully owned and controlled by IIPM by giving baseless advocacy. Their degrees are also internal and they perhaps pay for getting good degrees from IMI Belgium so you can probably make out that how IIPM is unduly earning profit from it's private controversial degree of IMI Belgium. Also, IIPM sometimes THREATENS to rusticate students for even if they protest against the faculty WITHOUT REFUNDING THEIR FEES. Our classmates once submitted a letter asking that we need a laptop which we were assured after paying the fees but we haven't got until now even thought the semester is coming to an end. The female faculty member, who is also incharged of Administration in IIPM Noida and a passout from the same college from IMI Belgium degree, threatened to rusticate us without refunding our fees.

  • hi. even i beleive that IIPM is a machine to make money ... arindham wants more and more admissions , as 1 admission gives him minimum rs 5 lakh... and more for which he need not to share with aicte and other authorities... .. he can start any batch any time in a year.. jan batch .. may btch, aug batch,, and may be more... you can get admission any time in any batch ... and more... so admission criteria is not good... but still what mr. malay chowdhari's started was an excellent college.. he gave some new directions to education industry .. as IIPM was the first institute in INDIA to send its students abroad, give laptops... etc those thigs were really helpful for education and students used to dream about getting admission in this college.. you can take admission in college.. will get good faculty, and rest everything is very much same as earlier days IIPM used to be,, except the admission system... but this also affects the quality of students intake... and inturn placements as how much can you improve a candidate who doesn't know how to write an application in english.... so this is what i know about IIPM.. rest its your career.. so decide wisely folks.. best of luck

  • I just Finished my MBA from Monash University, Australia and when i was in India i had plans of doing my bachelors from IIPM. Imagine if i would have done it, my situation would have been the same like one of the guys who wrote that he was applying for higher studies in USA but his bachelors degree was not accepted coz its from private college. University like Monash uni which comes in top 50 uni of the world will never accept such qualification. I did my bachelors degree from TASMAC, which is again not recognized in India but good thing is it is Validated by University of Wales, U.K, which is reputed university in U.k, TASMAC is the 1st Institute to get ISO certification and also Accreditation from British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education (BAC). When i met Monash University representative, she asked me for my mark sheets and seeing TASMAC mentioned on my mark sheet she threw it back on me but then i showed her the Validation certificate and degree given by University of Wales and contact details if they had any questions regarding validation. She took all the details and told me she will get back to me and in few weeks i hear i have got admission in Monash uni. I feel its not very important to have Indian affiliation to judge if it will provide quality education or not but u need to be smart to know the University you going to get the degree from is globally recognized university or not. The only reason i didn't join IIPM bcoz i just thot how can an institute can give his own degree and who will accept such degree from a institute which has started recently and global university which it associates it self is crappy one. University of Wales helped me alot as the uni and U.K degree has lot of respect across the globe. I even met guys from university of wales in TASMAC who spoke to us about whole validation system. I liked the quality of education given to me at TASMAC, it was truly world class. It helped me to cope up with education system in Australia and i am pleased to let u guys know. I will say what IIPM is doing is no good and guys u all need to be smart as its ur future. i did lot of research before joining TASMAC or in that case Monash University. believe me you have all the information on web. I don't remember the name of one more college in India which was validated by some U.K college and i went to British library to inquire about that college they told me that its just a small college in U.K awarding the degree, which again is not good but they gave me good feedback about Uni of Wales. so remember it is very important to know in the end the degree you getting is from where as that holds the key to success. You can't say i had quality education, its the degree which speaks by it self.

  • IIPM - Dare to thik beyond the IIM's Logically - this is a slogan for the institute itself It definitely dares to think so high about itself.. coming to the ad campaigns of IIPM- it clean advertising . Nothing wrong in it . you cant expect ethics in clean adverstising ( Pun intended) I Dont blame the media for it either. Thats thier revenue source. The ads reflects the " daring character of the IIPM's" Now lets look at the readers of the ad . Who is this reader ? Is he serious aboutthe MBA program Does he know what he wants from it Does he possess the qualities fo rthr program Does he posses the knowledge /skills required finally what about his logical /reasoning ability ? The ones who get carried away - are the ones who get carried away - I dont want to hurt anyone .... cant blame anyone for thier mistake. Remember ads are to lure people . If you are ignorant or say innocnet .IIMPM does not even need to dare .You are thier most valuable customer. Pl. wake up this is not a kids toy they are selling . Its an professional degree college that we are talking about. and i feel the student is responsible for his own fate. Luckily I dont have any harsh words for IIPM - Good for them as Kids do not apply for the MBA program

  • IIPM is a big fraud. All the people in the locality where r Arindam Chaidhury's stay knows he is a big time cheater who capitalised on the dirth of quality higher education in India and lured students in paying hefty fees resulting in fake degrees and fake foreign tours . His forte is only big talks and big advertisement in news paper , flaunting his rich array of imported cars. Practically the institute teaches good english and some basic corporate eriquttes to students from 2nd and 3tier cities and throw them in the job market with a meagre 20-25K p..m salary ( nowdays anybody can get that amount and for that you dont have to pay 10Lacs as fees ) This person is a crook who is palying with students life.He should be behind the bars .

It became a big bloggers vs. IIPM and Arindam choudhury and IIPM had to eat dirt. IIPM never responds to the allegations. Only throws mud at the messenger. the way they are doing it with CAREERS360 and Mahesh peri now. that is the history and upbringing of IIPM and its bullies. • IMI is an unnaccredited institution. Buckingham has been saying that they have an MOU and are in THE PROCESS OF getting into an agreement - SINCE MARCH 2009. MS University is a distance educatuion degree and you can get it for Rs.24000 by registering with them directly. WHY PAY 12 LACS TO IIPM for an unaccredited program of IMI or a distance education program of MS University costing Rs.24000. IIPM is a racket, and that is the bottomline.

  • YOU CANNOT DELETE ALL MY POSTS 360 . I WILL KEEP ON POSTING THIS ARTICLE HERE, LETS FACE THE REALITY, ...................DO WHATEVER YOU CAN............................xxxxxxx abc icle also says that Chicago Graduate School of Business did not have any association with IIPM (It did; and the original contract has been given to this newspaper). The author childishly not only lambasts the most reputed Haas Business School, Judge Business School and Darden Business School as being not anxious about their reputation, but also very loosely pooh-poohs Financial Times London (a most respected newspaper globally) and accuses them of writing puff pieces because they covered IIPM. The author makes a strange sophomoric claim that Judge Business School has warned IIPM to not use its logos. The reality is that when IIPM's contract ended, IIPM was told to stop using Judge's logo- which is a basic formality when any contract ends. The fact remains that about a thousand students from IIPM last year did a Certificate Programme in Advanced Global Management from Judge Business School and Judge was a "Partner B-School" for IIPM's Global Opportunity and Threat Analysis (GOTA) Programme and IIPM was legally allowed by them to use their logo in all their communication during the entire duration. The author in another self published piece claims the German Academic Exchange Service stopped funding a Neu-Ulm University student exchange project with IIPM due to its non-recognition. The author's slanted view becomes clear when she accepts that the German Academic Exchange Service's India office considers IIPM as amongst the top 10 b-schools in India. She also naively misrepresents the University of Bayreuth and the Mercator School of Management at the University of Duisburg-Essen as being "stubborn" in not breaking their IIPM association. In summary, the author discredits all leading business schools of the world and even all newspapers in India in one line saying they only try to make money through their associations with IIPM (Coincidentally, it's a mirror of the claims of the Indian Careers magazine). Obviously, when there is nothing controversial about an issue or an institute, why would media houses invest their time in making up sensationalist news? That's the reason why newspapers don't report negatively on IIPM, why leading business schools continue their association with IIPM, and even why top faculties from Darden, Yale, MIT-Sloan, Harvard University proudly display IIPM's names on their resumes. What is actually credit worthy is that all IIPM students are sent by IIPM for two to three weeks to organisations in various continents under GOTA, an initiative now actually being copied by ISB in its PGP MAX programme. GOTA gives students a multi-global exposure in how international corporations implement strategies, as well as getting a first hand idea about the role of governments and global institutions in social and economic development. IIPM students have been hosted - apart from its academic partners - by most prestigious companies and organisations like AXA insurance, Singapore, World Intellectual Property Organization, Switzerland, Deutsche Bank, Munich, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Munich, German Patent and Trademark Office, Allianz, Nestle ,TCS, Germany, Seimens AG, Renault, Paris, Coca Cola, Belgium, EU Parliament, Belgium and the likes. Student placements Acceptably, the media overall has lavished considerable praise on IIPM's placements, which has regularly placed its students in Fortune 500 companies and leading companies of India. In 2008, IIPM placed 2,670 students through campus placements, including 165 international placements, a massive record for that year. In 2009, 2,300 students got 750 companies participating in the campus placements - an unheard of figure considering the fact that it was the toughest year due to the economic slowdown. The average annual pay package that year was also a very good Rs.420,000. But some reports have questioned whether a few companies like Deloitte, Standard Chartered, Barclays actually took IIPM students. Interestingly, we found out that not only have they taken IIPM students, most of them have been taking the IIPM students very regularly over many years. Overall, the figures speak for themselves. This year, even while three months are left for the placement season to end, IIPM has already placed a mammoth 2031 students (with a domestic average package of Rs.460,000). Total international placements are already touching 33. Companies at campus include the choicest possible, with Google, Standard Chartered, Reliance ADAG, ICICI, Colgate Palmolive, HP, Xerox, IndiaBulls, Yamaha, Capital IQ-S&P, WNS Global, Wipro KPO, Yes Bank, Kingfisher UB Group, Sharp being amongst the cream. IIPM is no alien to such participation, with companies like American Express, Asian Paints, Citibank, Deloitte Consulting, Deutsche Bank, GE Money, HDFC Bank, Kotak, Oracle, Pepsi, Reebok, Vodafone, Yamaha etc having recruited IIPM students officially. No wonder IIPM has regularly got extremely high rankings for its placements and got the award for highest international placements in India for the last two years. While the India Today group's Mail Today ranked IIPM Delhi #1 in Delhi/NCR region in placements, the Zee Business Best B-School survey has regularly ranked IIPM amongst the top 10 in placements all over India.Which brings us to the topic of rankings! B-School Rankings The institute has consistently been ranked amongst the top b-schools in India and has even broken past benchmarks by beating the famed IIMs in a few parameters regularly. Way back in 2002 however, the same news weekly mentioned in the beginning had ranked IIPM 18th across India. In 2003, it again ranked them, but gave them only one rank better, that is 17th across India - and this despite IIPM being in the top fifteen in all quantitative rankings and even 4th on industry interface. It was later found that the research agency, had wrongly used four qualitative rankings to push down IIPM's rankings to 17th. When IIPM complained, apparently to save face, the magazine released an upstart statement almost two years post the incident that IIPM was being taken out from the rankings because IIPM gave the wrong data! Not only was their statement three years too late (IIPM had been ranked high since 2002), but it also opened up a Pandora's box about how their research agency used to take money for advertisements from the same institutions he used to rank as revealed recently by The Sunday Indian magazine (along with a sting on the agency). IIPM seems to have come out the winner in all this, with recent b-school surveys ranking them very high. In 2009, Zee Business survey ranked IIPM 5th overall (1st in Global Exposure - again ahead of all the IIMs - 5th in Industry Interface, 7th in Course Contents, 8th in Placements). The same year, India Today group's Mail Today ranked IIPM 1st in Placement Record, Quality of Faculty and Global Exposure, and 2nd in Student Development and Network and Infrastructure in the NCR region. Hindustan Times Best B-Schools of India ranked IIPM Delhi 9th overall in India amongst all private B-Schools in India. Academics and Course Content Contrary to all the above allegations which are clearly biased and deliberately negative we decided to look at IIPMs main claim to fame that its courses are "qualitatively superior and intellectually stimulating", hence are superior to normal MBA and BBA academic programs. When we reviewed the same, there seemed to be much weight in the argument. The standard IIPM course itself is 22 months and 1944 hour long, with a heavy emphasis on entrepreneurship and national economic planning, with economics liberally and exhaustively being taught at various levels. Why IIPM believes in this is not a secret - while general MBA courses focus only on how to generate more and more profits, the IIPM programmes teach the critical additional connect between national growth, private enterprises and entrepreneurship; and the need to coordinate their growth for equitable social development to occur. All this is supported hand in hand by the IIPM Think Tank, the center of all IIPM research. The IIPM Think Tank supports the high quality magazines like The Sunday Indian, Business and Economy and 4Ps Business and Marketing and brings out top class journals, namely Strategic Innovators, India Economy Review and Need The Dough, which have commentaries and global research by esteemed and highly respected faculties/practitioners including Nobel Prize winning authors and ivy league professors. From the Economist to IMF published papers have regularly referred to IIPM Think Tank's research. This is apart from the fact that IIPM has in past officially been the research partner for Yale School of Management in developing the India-investor confidence index survey. Unlike other B-Schools whose professors bring out books which are hardly read even by their own students, IIPMs books from Count Your Chickens Before They Hatch to The Great Indian Dream to the latest blockbuster Discover The Diamond In You have all been No.1 Best-Sellers in India. IIPM has even been a UNDP key partner institution in India and a member of the World Bank Institute's CSR committee in past. No wonder then that it has been awarded the best B-School in the non IIM category for two consecutive years! In conclusion of our investigations, we realised that IIPM has been in the forefront of public discussions because never before has any institute - with strong rationale - been courageous enough to challenge the legacy ranking of b-schools that has existed unquestioned and almost unchanged within India for years. Of course, advertising oneself is a critical strategic tool used extremely intelligently by IIPM - one which has given it many followers, but also some critics (especially from the IIMs), who perhaps find it hard to see the abovementioned legacy rankings challenged and being changed for the first time in recent history. Blogs, clearly illogical and defamatory Wikipedia entries, chat forums, twitter, facebook, are proof to the fact about how easy it is to misrepresent facts using puerile, infantile and immature discussions based on anonymous users. Visit any forum and you would realise that authenticity is a virtue rarely found, and brash criticism by vitriol loaded speakers available a dime a dozen. The truth however very often is clearly something else as we found out in the case of IIPM!....

  • xxxxxxx abc icle also says that Chicago Graduate School of Business did not have any association with IIPM (It did; and the original contract has been given to this newspaper). • This is about article by Arindam on education and budget. Like him I am fan of Three Idiots and its original writer Chetan Bhagat. He has correctly pointed that first idiot is student and their parents who fall in a emotional trap of big ticket educational institute and pay thru their nose to build the future. The second idiot who is actually a smart person projecting himself as a GURU derives respect from first idiot to impose his authority and commercially exploit him/them with a hype and glib talk. Third idiot is government who last 10-12 years is ready to sell anything from health care to education in the private hands. The regulators are corrupt therefore they have bypassed them. It is like since police forces have become corrupt all of them should be removed and let there be a free for all internal security system. Those who need protection can buy the security after payment of high amounts. Mr. Arindam just put your IIPM in this situation and do some soul searching if there is one with you and your people. If you give me a time I can come help you out. Till then keep up in making more idiots.

  • I guess more than this arindham, The gay apes like shah rukh khan should be taken in to task. This shameless actor was acting worst than a stripper in the recent launch programme of arindham's book, There is a diamond in you. Just like both of them. This book is also a total bull shit crap. Students are brainwashed with these actors to believe that IIPM is the best. No renowned B-school will have a dance show in it's stage, like what Mr. shah rukh did. The Govt should enact a law whereby which, whenever an actor endorses a programme or product and it proves to defamatory, the actor should also be made to bear the legal compensation arised out of it. We can't say, the people should be more responsible. In these times, I agree with the famous allauddin Khilji's remarks about people during his market reforms. " People are like babies, They act, like, dislike in accordance to a baby. It is the ruler, who should act, like, and dislike on behalf of him and take decisions for them".

NVAO was established by international treaty between the governments of The Netherlands and Flanders, the Flemish Community of Belgium. NVAO has been given the legal competence for quality assurance and accreditation of higher education in both countries. Take care guys... IIPM Rocks... Career360 always tries to publicize itself using the name of IIPM. You will find more articles on IIPM than any other institute. I am thinking of all F, S, etc. words for these career360 guys. • I am posing this for our Education Minister (I wrote this as email to him a few days earlier and yet to receive a response) : Respected Hon'ble Minister Sir, I am an ordinary citizen of India currently residing at New Delhi. I am working for a private company and paying 33% of my hard earned money as incomes tax. I would like to draw your kind attention to a matter pertaining to the future of my child. My daughter is currently studding in a school in Meera Bagh, New Delhi. When she moved from 10th grade to 11th grade in 2007-08, the school (as per directive of CBSE) came up with a new stream called “Financial Marketing Management”, and all parents were called by the school to introduce the stream and myself being from Commerce background was delighted to hear that finally the Education system has woken up to the issue that we all needs educated people in the financial markets (specially Stock Exchange across India). School also took them for some regular tests and certificate courses at Delhi Stock Exchange and kids really got excited about their future. Recently I have learnt from my daughter that the school has decided to close this stream from this year as there are no further Graduate courses available (post school) at University Level. When it was launched it was promised to us that Delhi University will also come up with something similar in Finance and these students will trained at the University level to handle the Financial Markets. My daughter having studied Financial Marketing Management at the school level is really hooked onto the idea and now finding it difficult to adopt the fact that she has no option but to go for a regular B.Com in one of the colleges. I am personally disappointed the way we (people, who decide) play with future of children. I have done some research of my own and found that there is no University, who would accept her as an Undergraduate for any courses in Financial Marketing. The other courses available in the market are BBA + MBA by IIPM (run by Arindam Chowdhary), who claims to the best in the business (charges around 15 lacs for 3 years). But the students, who have studied there, call him “FAKE”. Last year, there was an enquiry into this but nothing came out. He claims to have tie ups with various universities in Belgium and UK but the investigated reveals that he “PAYS” some professors to have his students go there for a week. You may find more information: http://www.careers360.com/news/3067-IIPM-Best-only-in-claims I also tried BIFM but they also seem to be not good. The current students also do not rate them good. My question is if the education department cannot run a specific stream than why do they start it and if they have started something, they must continue in order make sure that future of children of India is secure. And the other question is how we can allow private universities (e.g IIPM & BIFM) to run, make millions and play with the future of our children. Shouldn’t we have some sort of a system to keep a check? I really appreciate what you are doing at the school level (to remove the fear of “board exams” and all) but we need to something at university level. I think we need to learn from the United States and have Unitverstity system of that level for future of India to be bright. I don’t know what else to say but I am totally confused with my daughter’s future (& I am sure there are many more thousands like me) and would appreciate your thoughts and comments. With very best regards, Arora DS

One just can't imagine an institution of the order of IIPM doing such a thing so brazenly. See their ads in newspapers? The money thus spent is that of the poor students who will not get its worth as their degrees are provenly fake. Is the government sleeping? Under its nose are flourishing such corrupt people using so corrupt means. Our HRD Minister Kapil Sibbal's attempt to dereconnise 44 deemed to be universities may get caught in the wranglings of Supreme Court case. But he must not spare institutions like IIPM.

  • Is Mr Kapil Sibbal reading all these. Or still lost in the Book " Count Your Chicken Before they Hatch". 9334498311

  • hi, its a great pleasure to know that the investigations about education sellers with starcast is being carried out in such a way.Do we have a law that can stop publishing n broadcasting the ads of such institutions.if somebody is crazy about Shahrukh then plz watch his movies but do a segree from IGNOU than from IIPM.

  • wow.. i found it a bit hard to believe. But the evidences are alarming and could not be ignored. If this is true, why is IIPM not being framed for FRAUD..??

  • i went 2 days ago to iipm, they were very bold when i asked them why they do not get some recognation, we do want any thing from this govt, we want be different, this is our challenge, if u want u pl come or do not waist our time. but thanks to u and SH VIR SANGHVI who twitted on iipm

  • I think this in total is criminal in nature and should be brought to light, they are now charging such a hefty amount from the students which is a hard earned money of their parents, siblings etc

  • I would like to know how are companies visiting the IIPM campus for placements then? Are they unaware that IIPM does not award legal MBA degrees, or is it that they choose to ignore it? Also, the far-fetched comparisons that IIPM often makes with the IIMs also seems to be illegal in light of this information, since IIPM does not offer valid MBA degrees at all!

  • Thank u to let us know the truth about such fraud institution........which portrays the immorality of the people associated with it.

  • The institute that needs Shahrukh Khan and tons of advertising to get students to join it, itself speaks for the level of the courses & degrees offered. However lot of good management institutes in India are not AICTE/ UGC certified either. At the end of the day, knowledge is what matters.

  • Baah...I got my degree from IMI a few months ago. I thought it was valid and you have just proved it. But it's amazing how they are giving out those degrees. No one to stop them??!! @Praveen: For sure that will not be valid.
