THE committee of vice-chancellors issued a common entrance test for admission to undergraduate and post-graduate courses for all central university colleges and institutions.
The score of the class XII exam and that of the aptitude test will be combined while admitting students to the undergraduate courses across these Central universities. But the weightage of school results and the common test will be fixed by individual universities.
The aptitude test will help measure the general knowledge and personality of the students.
According to Kapil Sibal, Human Resource Development Minister, it is an effort to ensure that students are judged holistically rather than on the knowledge they have gleaned from books, says Sibal.
The proposal will be further fine-tuned and wider consultation will take place and universities will have the freedom to take it or leave it, he added.
