History of ADCB

Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) was established in 1985 as a public shareholding company with the limitation of liabilities in it. It followed the mergers between Emirates Commercial Bank, Federal Commercial Bank, and Khaleej Commercial Bank, which was established in 1975.

Through the Abu Dhabi Investment Council (ADIC), The Government of Abu Dhabi upholds 62.52% of ADCB shares; the remainder is to be held by other institutions and individuals. ADCB is known to be the third-largest bank in the UAE in terms of balance sheet size and offers a range of commercial and retail banking services to a number of its customers.

Till 30 September 2018, it has employed over 5000 people serving retail and corporate clients. Besides 56 branches in the UAE, it has only 1 branch in Jersey. It also manages out-of-representative offices in countries like Singapore and London.

In the month of January 2019, a 3-bank merger has been declared between ADCB, Union National Bank and Al Hilal Bank. The combination of these banks continues to be in charge as ADCB although Al Hilal Bank tends to operate as a standalone Islamic bank amalgamated under the branch of a new group entity.
