What is ARIIA?

ARIIA refers to the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements. The ARIIA is a national ranking system commenced by the Ministry of Education in 2018 to rank higher education institutions (HEIs) on the basis of different indicators of innovation and creativity.

Salient Features of ARIIA

  • The methodology is being sketched to calculate ARIIA metrics and considers all the major parameters/ indicators that have been used globally to rank education institutions for the outcome of innovation output. Additionally, ARIIA also measures some parameters which are only India-specific considering the contemporaneous scenario and the current level of higher education in India.

  • The ARIIA parameters are fundamentally organized into a sequence of major broad parameters with 7 indicators which have been further elaborated into an order of suitable sub-heads. Each broad head has an overall weightage that has been assigned to it. Within each head, the various sub-heads also have an appropriate weightage distribution to it.

  • To ensure accurate transparency in the ranking system, an attempt has also been made to recognize the relevant data that is needed to accurately measure the performance score under each sub-head. The prominence here is on recognizing the accurate data that the institution can easily poduce or is easy in obtaining from third-party sources and easily demonstrable, wherever verification is required. The overall score can be computed based on the weightage allotted to each head.

  • The overall score can be taken as a maximum value of 100.

  • The institutions will be ranked on the basis of their scores.
