The Chandigarh University admissions are conducted in three different phases, as per the convenience of the candidates. To aid students financially, the university also provides upto 100% scholarship for the top scorer of CUCET examination.

Who is eligible for admissions in Chandigarh University?

While the university offers a diverse range of programmes in various streams, the basic eligibility criteria of Chandigarh University remains the same for all the programmes.

  • For UG programmes, the candidates must have passed class 10+2 examination from a recognized board with a minimum of 50% marks.

  • Candidates who wish to take admission in PG programmes must have passed a bachelor's level programme from a recognized university with a minimum of 50% marks.

(Note - The candidates who are awaiting for their final year results are also eligible to apply for admission to their desired programme)

Chandigarh University admission through CUCET

The CUCET entrance examination was initiated a year back to assess students based on their knowledge in the applied subject and analytical ability. CUCET is an entrance cum scholarship test. The idea behind the CUCET entrance test is to reward the meritorious students with a scholarship programme and assist them in providing affordable education.

While it is necessary for the candidates who are applying for B.E, B.Pharmacy, MBA, Integrated Law programs (BA+LLB, BBA+LLB, BCom+LLB) and B.Sc (Hons) Agriculture programme to appear in the CUCET exam, the candidates who have scored 90% marks in the last qualifying examination are exempted from the exam. The online examination is conducted in the various exam centres around the country. The total duration of the CUCET exam is two hours. The result of Chandigarh University (CUCET) is sent to the candidates through email on their registered email address and is also published on the official website of the university. The shortlisted candidates are invited for the counselling based on their ranking obtained in the entrance examination. To avail the scholarship benefits offered through CUCET exam, the candidates have to submit the 30% of total fees within 15 days of the declaration.

Chandigarh University admission based on merit

The candidates who do not wish to appear for the entrance examination can also grab a seat based on their last qualifying examination marks. However, they will not be entitled to the CUCET scholarship benefits. Such candidates need to fill up their academic details and other information required in the application form. A merit list will be released by the university based on the past academic performance of the candidates. The Chandigarh University merit list mentions the rank of the candidates assigned to them and their last qualifying examination marks. The qualified candidates need to visit the campus and complete the admission formalities. It must be noted that those candidates who have rank upto 50000 in JEE examination are also eligible for admission in BTech programme offered by the university.

Questions related to Chandigarh University

Have a question related to Chandigarh University ?

Choosing between Chandigarh University (CU) and Lovely Professional University (LPU) with a 30% scholarship at both requires a careful evaluation of multiple factors. In terms of placement and industry exposure, both universities are competitive, especially for Computer Science and related fields. CU has been attracting top recruiters like Microsoft and Amazon, and similarly, LPU maintains strong industry ties and offers students global exposure through partnerships and internships. When it comes to academics and infrastructure, LPU has a slight advantage due to its expansive campus, state-of-the-art labs, and innovation hubs. CU, while smaller, has shown impressive growth and offers a solid academic environment. From a logistical standpoint, both universities are located in Punjab, but CU’s proximity to Chandigarh city may make it more accessible. The cost of living is fairly similar in both areas. However, a crucial factor is your COMEDK result. If you expect a good score, waiting could open doors to top Karnataka engineering colleges like RVCE, BMSCE, or MSRIT, which often offer better placement opportunities and industry connections. If your COMEDK score is uncertain and you want to secure a seat early, LPU might be the more advantageous option due to its broader national reputation and infrastructure advantages. Ultimately, if your COMEDK score is promising, waiting is wise; otherwise, LPU is a solid choice with your current scholarship offer.

Hii,

In certain cases, Chandigarh University admits B.Tech students directly without requiring an entrance exam. Your grades in the 12th grade, particularly in math, physics, and chemistry, as well as other factors like your JEE score or management quota, will determine this.

However, since admissions policies can change annually, it is best to check their official website or get in touch with the university to find out the precise requirements for the year you wish to enroll.

Hii,

If you seek good placement, stronger professors, and more exposure, SRM is the superior option for BTech CSE with AIML.  It has a large campus, many events, and major corporations come to hire.  Chandigarh University (CU) is likewise good, although not as strong as SRM in terms of overall rankings and industrial partnerships.

Choose SRM if you can afford the tuition and want to improve your chances of landing a tech career.  Choose CU if you want a low-cost choice with good quality.  Both are private, but SRM is one step ahead.

  • Chandigarh University (CU) : www.cuchd.in (https://www.cuchd.in/)

  • SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) : www.srmist.edu.in (https://www.srmist.edu.in/)

If you have mistakenly selected "Bachelor of Engineering CS - Lateral Entry" while filling the CUCET (Chandigarh University) form but you do not want lateral entry, then there is no need to worry. You can follow the following steps to correct this mistake:

  • Contact the University Helpline or Admission Cell immediately. Explain your problem in detail on the helpline number or email (admissions@cumail.in) given on the official website of Chandigarh University.
  • Tell them that it was a genuine mistake during form-filling and you want to apply for regular B.E./B.Tech CS.
  • In most cases, the university allows correction or manually edits your application.
  • Also, you can fill a new form if required, but it is better to confirm with the university first.

Important Tip: Always check all the details carefully once before final submission, so that such mistake does not happen again.

Given your JEE Main rank (922 All India Rank) and CRL of 1.16 lakh, and considering financial constraints that make colleges like Chandigarh University (CU) or Lovely Professional University (LPU) less affordable, choosing between IPE at NIT Jalandhar, CSE at UIET Hoshiarpur, and ECE at CCET Chandigarh involves weighing the value of the institute, branch, and future career prospects. NIT Jalandhar, being a National Institute of Technology, has a strong reputation nationally, excellent infrastructure, and better placement opportunities across all branches compared to state colleges. Even if you choose Instrumentation and Process Engineering (IPE), which is a niche branch, the prestige of NIT and its connections with industry can offer good internships and jobs. UIET Hoshiarpur is affiliated with Punjab University and has a decent reputation, especially for CSE, which is a high-demand branch with better placement potential compared to ECE in CCET Chandigarh. CCET Chandigarh is well-regarded regionally, but ECE placements may not be as strong or lucrative as CSE placements. If finances are tight and you want the best return on investment, NIT Jalandhar’s IPE is a strong choice due to the brand value and quality of education. If you prefer a core branch like CSE and UIET’s fees are manageable, that is a good alternative. ECE at CCET can be considered if you have a specific interest in electronics and communications but expect relatively moderate placements. Ultimately, prioritize institute reputation and affordability, and try to align with your long-term career interests.
