PMKVY: Report On Candidates From India’s Eastern States

Eastern states reported the highest number of enrollment of candidates. Out of the 7,94,911candidates across the country, 23 per cent were from the eastern states of: Assam, West Bengal, Orissa, Manipur, Sikkim, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Bihar.

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship at the Centre, launched the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) training programme to enable skill development among the youth.

Careers360 analysed the data of the PMKVY training programme for the eastern states of the country to know the actual beneficiary number of the programme in the region. For logistical reasons, we divided the analysis into central, east, north, south and west zones, and Union Territories separately

PMKVY: Enrolled Candidates

Eastern zone includes the highest number of states and that’s why the enrollment of the candidates is also high. A total of 1,86,127 candidates were registered for the PMKVY programme from the eastern states. Out of these around 60 per cent of the candidates were enrolled from Bihar, Assam, and West Bengal, the three major states of the east.

States with lower population percentage such as Sikkim, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Mizoram had the lowest enrollment among the eastern states.

PMKVY 3.0: Ongoing Training

The data used in this article was collected in 2021 and few of the courses in the PMKVY program were still ongoing due to which data for those candidates in terms of compilation or placement was unavailable.

PMKVY: Certified Candidates

Nagaland is the only state from the eastern states who is included in the top 10 states of the country with the maximum percentage of certified candidates in the third version of PMKVY training programme. On average around 43 per cent of the candidates from the eastern states were certified in PMKVY 3.0.

PMKVY: Placed Candidates

Sikkim had zero placement percentage in the PMKVY 1.0 but in the latest version that is PMKVY 3.0, the state recorded the highest placement percentage not only among the eastern states but among all the states of the nation.

The first version of the PMKVY programme, PMKVY 1.0, occurred from 2015 to 2016. The second version was a four year program that started in 2016 to 2020 and the latest, PMKVY 3.0 was for 2020-21.
