Indian Navy Agniveer MR Entry: Job Roles

The applications for Agniveers for MR (Matric Recruit) are open twice every year, typically in the months of June or July and November or December. Aspirants can check for the official announcement in the All India Bulletin and on the official Indian Navy recruitment website.

Under the Agnipath Scheme, the Indian Navy offers mainly three employment categories for 10th pass candidates as Agniveer (MR) :

  • Chef (MR): You will be responsible for making the meals on the menu, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. You will also be required to manage the ration. Additionally, you will receive firearms training and be assigned other responsibilities for the smooth operation of the organisation.
  • Steward (MR): You would be expected to do duties such as waiters, housekeeping, accounting for money, wine, and supplies, menu creation, and assisting in menu planning in the officers' mess facilities. Also undergoes weapons training.
  • Hygienist (MR): Your primary role is to keep the restrooms and other places clean. You will also undergo firearms training and be assigned additional responsibilities that lead to the effective operation of the organisation.

Eligibility Criteria (Agniveer MR)

  • Education: To join the Indian Navy after 10th, candidates must pass class 10 from an educational board recognised by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
  • Age Limit: Candidates for the positions of steward, chef, and sanitary hygienist should be between 17.5 and 21 years of age.

Selection Process (Agniveer MR)

Applications for Indian Navy recruitment will be chosen based on three stages:

  1. Computer-Based Test (CBT)- Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET)

  2. Physical Fitness Test (PFT)

  3. Medical Examination

1. Computer-Based Test

The CBT, typically part of the INET for Agniveers, is a computer-based examination. This paper includes objective-type questions from sections like Science, Mathematics, and General Awareness. The exam questions standard will be that of a class 10th exam.

Physical Fitness Test (PFT)

The PFT consists of 3 parts:

  1. 1.6 km run to be completed within 6 minutes 30 seconds (for males) / 8 minutes (for females)

  2. 20 squat-ups

  3. 10 push-ups /10 Bent Knee Sit-ups (for females)

Medical Examination

Clearing the medical examination is the next significant step in the recruitment process. This follows the medical standards outlined in the latest regulations that apply to Agniveers upon entry.

  • Height Requirement: The minimum height required is 157 cm

  • Chest and weight should be in proportion to height

  • Vision and hearing should comply with the Navy order(special) 01/2008

  • The candidate should be in good mental and physical health with no disabilities.

Agniveer Salary Structure (Monthly Package)

Agniveers receive a monthly package which increases on an annual basis in their four-year tenure:

After completing the 4 years, Agniveers are entitled to receive a one-time Seva Nidhi package worth approximately Rs 10.04 Lakhs. This package includes,

  • Personal contribution + accrued interest

  • Matching contribution by the Government of India

The entire amount of the Seva Nidhi package is tax-free.
