What is the full form of CI?

CI refers to “Circle Inspector” of Police. A district is divided into circles which covers up areas of two or more police stations or police outposts. The inspector who heads the circle of the district is CI or Circle Inspector. The major responsibility of the Circle Inspector is to prevent or detect crime in his circle. A Circle Inspector also takes care that all the police officers posted in his circle perform their duties efficiently. All police officers in his circle are subject to his supervision. The Circle Inspector will not directly start an investigation but will supervise the investigation done by the police inspectors under his circle.

Qualifications necessary to become circle inspector

One must require the following qualification to become the Circle Inspector:

  • Age of the candidate should be from 21 years to 44 years.

  • Candidates should be graduated from a recognized university.

  • Candidates should be well versed ( be able to speak and write) the native language of the state.

  • Candidates should qualify the Civil Services Examination(CSE) conducted by the Public Service Commission(PSC).

Rank of Circle Inspector

A Circle Inspector also known as Sub - Divisional Police Officer. Circle Inspector is of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) or Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) who leads different police sub - divisions in various states.

General duties of Circle Inspector

  • A Circle Inspector will be responsible for all the crime in his circle and will visit all serious crime scenes.

  • He will be responsible for the efficiency of the police officers of his circle and he should inspect the police stations of his circle at least once a year.

  • He is also responsible for visiting the sick police officer in health care under Sub - Rule (6) of Rule 24.

  • He is also responsible for assisting the Superintendent of Police in his duties.

  • He is also responsible for the collection of revenue of the state.
