The One Planet, One Ocean programme by edX imparts knowledge to all its learners in the fundamental concepts of marine science which includes economic models, coastal ecosystems, deltas under pressure, threats to the ocean, coastal hazards, nutrient management, coastal solutions, plankton, ocean health index, ocean management, range shifts, alien species, marine spatial planning, aquaculture, fisheries economics, and ocean evolution.

One Planet, One Ocean Course course also speaks about the ecosystem change and its impact in the ocean. The candidate will also understand the influence of humans on the oceans.  They will also explore non-renewable resources in the ocean. The candidate would gain knowledge about marine diversity and evolution of species in the ocean by the end of the course.

The course completion certificate offered at the end of the programme is shareable and it is verified by the institution. One Planet, One Ocean Course certificate can be directly shared to the LinkedIn profile of the candidate. It can also be mentioned in the CV.

Certification Qualifying Details

The candidate must pass with 70% and opt the verified course track by doing the defined payment, to receive a certificate from edX. The grade is calculated considering 50% marks from the final exam, 40% from the midterm exam and the rest from post and pre course surveys. The progress of the candidate can be seen in the progress page.

Admission details

The learners shall follow the simple steps which are detailed below to register themselves for the One Planet, One Ocean programme offered by edX.

Step 1: Visit the link https://www.edx.org/course/one-planet-one-ocean

Step 2: Register using email id or Facebook or Google if you are a new user else sign in using email id and password.

Step 3: Click “enrol”

Step 4: Then, you can access the audio track of the course.

Step 5:  If you want a certificate, then upgrade the plan to verified track by clicking “Upgrade now”

Step 6: Enter all the details. Also, enter coupon code if you have a coupon. 

Step 7: After that enter billing details and click “Place order”

Step 8: Once the payment is confirmed, you will be moved to the verified track of the course.

Scholarship Details

edX offers financial assistance to the participants who want to receive verified certificates. The participant must fill the financial assistance application to avail scholarship. Nearly 90% discount on fee is provided for the eligible candidates. The participants shall look through the website for more details.

Is there any deadline to upgrade the programme?

Yes, the information regarding the deadline is available on the website. The candidate shall check the deadline and upgrade the programme before the deadline to avoid loss of course progress.

Are financial aid available?

Yes, financial aid is provided to the participants who fill the financial assistance application. Up to 90% discount on fee is provided for the selected participants.

Can the learner shift the due dates of assignment?

Yes, the candidate can shift their due dates using the “shift due date” button which is present on the dates tab. This shifting will not affect the course progress of the candidate.

What can the candidate expect to learn by the end of One Planet, One Ocean Course programme?

The candidate will learn geology, biology, chemistry, and physics of the ocean. They will also learn about human interactions in the ocean. Rules and regulations to be followed in the ocean are also discussed.

Is there any criteria to receive a certificate?

The candidate must pass the assignments with at least 70% and must have opted the verified programme to receive a certificate. The candidate shall look at the progress page for tracking their progress.

How is final grade calculated?

The final grade is calculated by taking 50% marks from the final exam, 40% marks from the midterm exam, and 10% for course participation.  The candidates can check their assessment grades in the progress tab.

Can the candidate transfer their scholarship to other courses?

No, the financial assistance obtained for one course cannot be transferred to another course. The candidate must use the scholarship for the same course only.

Is One Planet, One Ocean programme self-paced or instructor led?

The One Planet, One Ocean programme by edX is a self-paced programme.  The recorded videos, assessments are available in the website 24*7 and the candidate can look at them at any time from any part of the world. 

What are the advantages of the certificate?

The certificate obtained on successful completion of the programme will add value to the CV and resume of the candidate. As the certificate is verified it adds more value. It can also be shared to the LinkedIn profile of the learner. 

What is the major difference between audit programme and verified programme?

The participants pursuing a verified programme are provided with the certificate whereas audit programme participants are not provided with a certificate. The audit programme is free whereas the verified programme is paid.
