Barasat Government College is a leading institution in the state of West Bengal, located in Kolkata, established as far back as 1950. It offers an extremely vast range of programmes, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, across disciplines. It resides in a compact area of 6.04 acres inclusive of its extension, and its student enrolment stands at 3,159 students. The gender ratio at the college is 44% male and 56% female. The institution boasts a gargantuan 82 faculty members with 20 courses in 6 degree programmes, specialising in arts and science.

Barasat Government College provides both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. It provides 15 undergraduate courses and 5 postgraduate courses.
In the Undergraduate courses, the college offers Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Geography, Economics, Bengali, English, History, Political Science, Philosophy, and Sanskrit. At the postgraduate level, the college offers M. Sc. programmes in Botany, Zoology, and Physics, and MA in Bengali.
