Darshan Institute of Science, Rajkot is a new age constituent college was established in the year 2021 situated in Rajkot, Gujarat, India. It is a young institution, which has the main task of offering quality education at the university level with a special emphasis on microbiology. This institute is well equipped to handle students from entry level through to post graduate levels as they conduct both undergraduate and doctoral programs. To the best of our knowledge, Darshan Institute of Science obtained its ranking data recently due to its relatively young existence; However, the Institute is a part of a much-robust Darshan University group that is striving to offer contemporary, industry-focused education.

The institute has different amenities that nurture student’s life and their academic endeavors. A well stocked library has a book bank which contains over 27,000 books to enhance college students literature search and discovery. The testing centre has a facility of Cafeteria to provide hygienically prepared, reasonable and healthy meals for students. The school convenience store is also available on campus where academics and personal necessities can be bought at quite cheap rates. Student health care is also given due attention in the institute by means of regular visit of a medical officer and referrals to hospitals where necessary. There different sports facilities where student can participate in indoor and outdoor activities to enhance their physical activities. The services include accessibility of Information Technology in teaching and learning processes, facility inbuilt modern methods of IT and provision of transport within the campus for students and members of staff.

Darshan Institute of Science currently offers two primary courses: Microbial biotechnology, Microbial ecology, Virology, and Molecular biology and genetics, and educational background of B.Sc Microbiology and Ph.D. Microbiology. The B.Sc program is a full time course spread over three years academic session and the approved working capacity for one year is actually 30 students. The Ph.D program is also a full-time program through which students can complete graduate level research in microbiology. Each of the programs is aimed at giving students total understanding of knowledge and skills in their chosen area of specialty. Unfortunately, the numbers of graduates cannot yet be presented since the institute is rather new; however, the offered specialization list proves the institute’s orientations toward the provision of focused and high-quality education in the spheres of microbiology.

The admission procedure in Darshan Institute of B.ED is different from that for other programs offered in the college. As for the admission procedure for B.Sc Microbiology program, the details of the admission criteria have not been shared, although, the admission is generally said to be merit based on the student’s 10+2 passing percentage in science streams. The admission process of the Ph.D Microbiology program is relatively more formalized. All students are expected to compete well in the Ph.D Entrance Test administered by the Darshan University and also pass the interview. There are conditions whereby the candidate is exempted from the entrance test; the candidates who passed UGC-NET (JRF), UGC- CSIR NET (JRF), SLET, GATE or teacher fellowship holders. Also, candidates with ten or more years of qualification experience in academic institutions, industries, or research institutions are also excluded from the entrance test. However, information regarding specific scholarships offered in the institute is not available; nevertheless, the institute has implemented the book bank system, under which all textbooks of the students are purchased at a low price and supplied to the students. With time, the institute is expected to offer more elaborate support structures to its students and thus attract even more students for the course in microbiology.
