Dasmesh Institute of Research and Dental Sciences which started in year 1992 is a well known dental college in Faridkot, Punjab. This private, co –educational institute is recognized by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences and is approved by Dental Council of India (DCI). Located in a 5 acre area this institute is currently awarding two degrees and eight courses in dentistry; total intake capacity is 410 students and total faculty is 152. The institute boasts a diverse student body with 88% undergraduate and 12% postgraduate students, maintaining a gender ratio of 1:3.3 (male to female). Authorized by NAAC – National Assessment and Accreditation Council Dasmesh Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital is well known as one of the leaders of dental education.

For purposes of creating a conducive learning environment, the institute offers the following amenities. The students are hosted in different hostels for boys and girls respectively with peculiar care to the safety of the girls. The modern equipments are available in health center with first aid facility to serve the medical requirement of the campus. This academic year’s collection, for instance, comprises thousands of books, Journals, DVDs, CD-ROMs, and other academic materials in different learning areas that meet students’ research and study needs. Concerning physical health, gym and all the sporting activities are offered to students in order to have healthy bodies in body throughout the exercise. The campus has good IT facilities so that the college and students can enjoy a proper connection and proper use of the machines. This is a cafeteria that is for both staff and students: It provides a through a range of healthy diets. Besides, it then has an auditorium where functions, seminars, and cultural displays are carried out, thus enhancing student’s development.

Downs dental college includes a variety of dental courses in Dasmesh Institute of Research and Dental Sciences. Currently at Undergraduate level, it offers a BDS course with a capacity of one hundred students at the school. The postgraduate programs include the following courses: The Masters of Dental Surgery in; Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge, Periodontology, Oral Medicine and Radiology, and Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. These MDS programs have an intake that differ from 2 to 3 seats each. All of them are daytime programs and BDS is a 5 year course while the MDS are 3 years courses. Among the students, a total of 369 students, 325 of them were in undergraduate programs while 44 of them in postgraduate programs.

Dasmesh Institute of Research and Dental Sciences has decided to offer admission through the scores of national level examinations only. The admissions to the BDS program are given on the basis of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). He added that admission to postgraduate courses in MDS is done through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for MDS (NEET MDS). There is no question that standardized tests promote efficiency and enable an equal fight on the applicant selection. The admission process at the institute is very complex and takes into account scores in the entrance exams, the performance in academics and counselling sessions. Although there is no specific information available regarding scholarship the institute is concerned to deserving students. It is worthy of note, however, that the alumni of this institute has produced prominent dental practitioners in the dentistry field although individual names are not highlighted. The dental college has been staying in demand due to its emphasis on structured dental education and adequate infrastructure for its students and faculty members.
