Dr. R. Ahmed Dental College and Hospital, Kolkata, was established in the year 1952 with a view of imparting quality dental education in the heart of Kolkata, West Bengal. This is an affiliated college and is approved by the Dental Council of India. Seven decades and more, this college has met the needs of dental education. The college, which spans an area of 2.43 acres, offers scores of dental programs to 590 students enrolled in it. Having 70 members on the faculty makes the student-teacher ratio convenient, thereby providing both personal attention and quality education.
The college affords 8 courses spread across 2 degree levels in different specializations of dentistry, hence becoming a one-stop solution for dental studies. Dr. R. Ahmed Dental College and Hospital provides 8 numbers of full time courses in all undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The BDS program, a flagship program of the institution, is offered by the college with a 100% admission capacity each year. Various specializations under the Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) are offered at the postgraduate level where the institution admits a batch size of 3-4 students in each discipline. The college offers MDS in Prosthodontics, Periodontics, Conservative Dentistry, Orthodontics, Oral Surgery, Oral Pathology, and Paedodontics. The wide array of specializations offered makes it easy for students to focus on a specific mint of dentistry that interests them. Admissions in BDS are done under the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Candidates for postgraduate dentistry must have to qualify for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for MDS (NEET MDS).
