Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram, India, is one of the oldest institutions in the field of Ayurveda educational training and research activities founded in 1889. This affiliated college is situated in the thick of city of Kerala and hailed by the Central Council for Indian Medicine (CCIM). The college is situated over an area of 18 acre and has the total student enrolment of 559 and has a total teaching staff 69. It teaches 24 courses under five degrees involving different aspects of the Ayurvedic system of medicine. Rich history and continuity of practice in Ayurvedic system makes the college one of the premier institution for imparting education in traditional medicine system in India.
Government Ayurveda College offer facilities which may include classrooms, computer labs and dining halls as part of infrastructure that aids learning for student of the college. It has a separate hostel facilities for Boys & Girls for out station students where they can live comfortably. They have the use of internet connection in their campus and therefore enjoy an easy access to the internet facilities. Notable among infrastructural achievements is the college library which was acclaimed to be one of the most developed Ayurvedic medical libraries in the country.

Further, the college offers PhD in Ayurveda and several number of Post postgraduate diploma courses in the respective fields like Swasthavritta and Yoga, Kshar Karma and Ayurvedic Pharmaceutics for 2 seats each. About the admission process it is important to note that it differs depending on the programme of study in Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram. The college offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs across various streams in Ayurvedic medicine. Since there's high competition, the admission procedure differs from program to program. For undergraduate admission into BAMS, students should merit a place based on the NEET score. Each year, the bachelor program-BAMS, the prime undergraduate course in the institute, accommodates 70 newest students into the undergraduate fold. The selection of students will be based on an entrance test conducted by the authority of the Kerala Commission for Entrance Examination.
The other MD/MS are also part and parcel of the PG programs conducted by the All India AYUSH Post Graduate Entrance Test (AIAPGET). The college has different MD courses that include specializations like Kayachikitsa, Panchakarma, Dravyaguna, etc., with an intake capacity range of 3 to 8 in each specialization. Annually, 2 students are inducted into the MS in Netra Roga Vijnana. Generally, there are two steps to the selection process of PhD programs in Ayurveda: an initial written exam and/or interview by the college. Admission Process per Degree
BAMS: Admission for BAMS i.e. Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery is limited to only 70 students every academic year. The minimum eligibility is a 10+2-level qualification with English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as subjects. Admission is limited and competitive, based solely on the rank list that comes from the entrance examination conducted under the aegis of the Commission for Entrance Examinations, Government of Kerala.
MD/MS Programs: The total number of seats in college adds up to 64 for 13 MD specializations and 1 MS specialization. Candidates are mainly admitted based on scores achieved in AIAPGET and must pass the eligibility criteria that imply a BAMS or an equivalent degree recognized by CCIM. However, some additional may also apply, as determined by the state government or institution.
Postgraduate Degree (PGD) Programs: The university is running 8 PGD courses with 2 seats each. Some of the specializations offered under PGD include Swasthavritta and Yoga, Kshar Karma, and Ayurvedic Pharmaceutics. Generally, the admission procedure is on merit but some courses may require an entrance or interview.
PhD in Ayurveda: For admission into the doctoral program, assessment of the performance of the candidates in a written test, and/or interview. Important is that the candidate needs to have passed a Master's degree in the related area of Ayurveda.
