Government Brennen College of Teacher Education, Thalassery- an institution which began its journey in the year 1957, is one of the renowned institutions designed to build the future of education. A affiliated college located in Kannur, Kerala it has been preparing prospective teachers for more than sixty years now. The institute is small in its area with 1.52 acres area, yet it is offering quality standard teacher training programmes as it is approved by the National Council for Teacher Education NCTE. With a focus on co-education, the college offers two specialised courses: a four-year programme of Bachelors of Education (B.Ed) and a doctoral programme of Doctor of Philosophy in Education (Ph.D) to enable academics at the basic level and at a higher level in the field of education.

Government Brennen College of Teacher Education is a school that offers two programmes, each a level above the other so to speak. B.Ed is the full time course duration for two academic session which has approved intake capacity of 50 students in one shift. This course intends to provide prospective teachers with the information and skills needed in order to flourish in the teaching profession. But for those who want to be involved in educational research and postgraduate studies the college provides full‐time Ph.D. in Education which takes about six years. Both programmes are designed to offer enough coverage on the nature of the programmes, the didactic knowledge to be acquired alongside the practical teaching experiences.

The admission to Government Brennen College of Teacher Education is normally done on merit since the college is a producing institution for quality teachers. For the B.Ed programme, both the qualification marks and Test Score / Entrance test score, are followed as per rules and regulation framed by State Government of Kerala and the concerned University.
