Government College, Kodanchery, formally established in the year 1980, is one of the oldest institutions of high repute centred at Thamarassery, Kozhikode, Kerala. This affiliated college, integrated across the expansive 17.1-acre land, has a student enrolments of 643 and it caters to a wide spectrum of educational programmes. At present, college has a qualified staff of 34 employees and offers 9 courses and 7 degree programmes. It proudly boasts the NAAC accreditation showing that Government College, Kodanchery has been delivering quality education. The institution has been expanded in various specialisations such as the Economics, Commerce, Physics, and even Zoology for students with divergent focus and goals.

Government College, Kodanchery, has various colleges facilities that facilitate teh learning and other development activities for the students. An efficiently equipped central and digital library resources facility has a collection of about 26000 books, 2200 e-books and 40magazine and journals and acts as a resource centre  on campus for the scholar entity. The campus is well equipped with laboratories to serve the need of promoting the learning activities. In the interest of the health of the students in the college, they exercise their privileges in participating in gymnasiums and sports facilities besides having a health section with first aid facilities. There is a college canteen which belongs to the Parent-Teacher Association, sells food at reasonable prices. An auditorium accommodates a variety of events and seminars thereby, improvingthe level of activity on a campus. The college also has the required IT base for today’s learning processes.

Government College, Kodanchery, provides education from undergraduate to postgraduate and doctoral levels. This institution also offers 9 full time courses and they include Arts and Science programmes. The college offers its students with the following programmes such as the BA Economics Major, B.Com Major, B.Sc Physics Major, B.Sc Zoology Major, MA Economics, M.Com, M.Sc Zoology and Doctor of Philosophy or Ph.D in Economics and Commerce. The overall student capacity for all courses offered is 643, therefore the college insists on achieving a proper student enrollment ratio in order to have optimal contact with tutors.

Several categories of students are admitted to Government College, Kodanchery by and large through the CAP of the University of Calicut. Undergraduate programmes include BA Economics Major, B.Com Major, B.Sc Zoology Major, and B.Sc Physics Major and CAP admissions apply to these programmes. Likewise, MA Economics, M.Com and M.Sc Zoology have centralised admissions for the postgraduate courses offered in the university. Economics and Commerce are offered at Ph.D. level, but with separate admission process, which involves, written entry test, conducted every year by the University of Calicut. But a candidate holding UGC-NET/JRF, UGC-CSIR-NET/JRF, SET, GATE or specific research fellowships may be conditionally exempted from an entrance test. Thus, today the college has an active alumni association at the college and departmental level that connect existing and former students.
