Government College of Education, Burdwan was established in 1964 and is one of the largest and oldest teacher-training colleges in West Bengal, India. This is a co-education affiliated college with an enrolment of 93 students and 10 faculty members. The NCTE has sanctioned approval to the college has a compact 7-acre campus providing an excellent learning environment. This institution offers a course leading to a Bachelor of Education degree.

Government College of Education, Burdwan has several facilities for enriching students' learning experiences. The College Library is the knowledge hub; it is thus provided with a computer and Broadband Internet connectivity. The library management software used is LIBSYS for cataloging and accessing the facilities in the respective library. It has an excellent IT infrastructure that gives due importance to techno-up gradation. Some of the specialized laboratories provided on the campus include Computer Science, Psychology, Geography, Physical Science, Life Science, and Language studies. Other facilities at the college include an auditorium meant for various programs and symposia, which can be expected to make the academic environment rather dynamic. 

This Government College of Education, Burdwan, at the undergraduate level, offers a B.Ed. course as the backbone for all academic courses. This is a full-time two-year course, and the course shall be aimed at inculcating theoretical knowledge, skills, and practice among students so that they turn out to be totally fledged and successful teachers. The course has a comprehensive curriculum with a mix of theoretical knowledge and practical teaching experience in order to turn out balanced teachers.

Admission to Government College of Education, Burdwan, is done on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination.
