The institution at Osyllivan and Park Road, Jalandhar which began from 1882 is ‘Government College of Education Jalandhar’ which is one of the most recognised college for imparting teacher education. Situated in Jalandhar, Punjab this co-educational college has paved the way in determining the future of education for over hundred years. Recognised by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, and approved by the National Council for Teacher Education. As an affiliated college, it has two specialised degree programmes in education. Located across a 9.45 acre area, it is quite small having a total of 227 students and 7 Faculty members. Over the years and with its adherence to quality, the Government College of Education, Jalandhar stands shoulder deep in the practice of providing teachers for our nation.

Government College of Education has made available many facilities to help improve the learning environment of the students of the college. The library of the college is very large and contains approximately 35000 books, journals and encyclopedias on different subjects relating to the course of teacher education. A fully equipped auditorium is available for workshops, seminars and inter college competitions etc. It also has sports amenities as it is envisaged that students should also be fit both body and mind as they develop their academics. Available practical learning gadgets include departmental laboratories and a well equipped computer lab with Wi-Fi connection. The college has a health club and First Aid facilities to ensuring the students have access to necessary health services. Other facilities are dining hall or canteen, car parking and accommodation for faculty and their families for temporary stay.

Government College of Education, Jalandhar offers two full-time courses in education: In services as a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and Master of Education (M.Ed). They also last for two years. For the M.Ed programme, the college has approval for the intake of fifty seats and B.Ed programme despite the seats available not mentioned. These courses give detailed knowledge about theoritical as well as practical aspects of teaching profession to train the students for teaching and educational administrative positions. These specialised programmes are in consonance with the college goal of producing quality educators in professional training.

The admission Procedure at Government College of Education, Jalandhar is different as it offers B.Ed and M.Ed courses. For the B.Ed course, convenered by the State University (Punjab/Punjabi/Guru Nanak Dev University), there is a combined entrance test usually in the month of July. This test has been used as the basis of preparing the merit list. More than anything, 15 percent of seats are available for the All India category students, while 85 percent seats are available for the state pool category. The admission in the programme are done merit wise depending on marks secured in the qualifying examination and/or entrance test for which eligibility norms are as per the Govt./UT rules laid down from time to time.

 The college has a vibrant alumni network, which was established in 2004, and is composed of past learners. Aside from yearly membership and for life membership, there is also alumni membership which ensures that they are can stay connected to the institution even after they have graduated. Scholarship information for this college is not given but since it is a government college there may be several various facilities to finance for deserving students.
