Government College of Education was begun in the year 1970, with a near-unanimous understanding of chiselling the pedagogy for years to come. Set close to the Mumbai-Pune Highway in Panvel, Maharashtra, this co-educational institution has been polishing budding educationists into form since the last five decades. Spread over an elite campus of 3.4 acres, the college today accommodates 114 students, making it an intimate learning environment. With a faculty strength of 6 dedicated educators, the institute assures personalised attention and guidance to all its students. The college offers two specialised degree programmes in education as an undergraduate programme and as a postgraduate programme respectively. 

The infrastructural facilities available in Government College of Education, Panvel update the knowledge of the students and provide a comfortable environment for seeking knowledge. The college library covers an area of 1875 square feet and holds 9550 reference books along with other journals, periodicals, and newspapers. It has a well-stocked reading room that can accommodate 35 students. The institution also pays importance to the welfare of the students with hostel facilities for boys and girls separately. The Boys Hostel accommodates 40 students in its 24 rooms, which takes over 51,883.60 square meters. The Girls' Hostel has an area of 348.12 square meters with 6 rooms and can accommodate 15 students. Every hostel provides normal amenities with mess facilities. The college also maintains games and sports facilities for the athletic persons. The activities include cricket, volleyball, badminton, carrom, chess, and table tennis. The institute is blessed with modern IT infrastructure equipped with 10 computer nodes for LAN and internet connectivity. The student is always updated about the recent technological advancements in education. 

Government College of Education, Panvel, provides specialised education courses. In all, it offers two full-time courses, namely, B.Ed and M.Ed, which respectively take two years to complete.Number of intakes  50 students in each program for a total intake of 100 students in the two courses. This limited admission will only make the college strive to uphold quality in its area of teacher education. The general student enrolment at the college level equals the output capacity of 114, thus having all the available seats occupied to capacity with eager demand for its services in education. 

Admission policy of Government College of Education, Panvel shall be based on choosing most promising candidates for the streams of education offered. Admission to the B.Ed programme shall strictly be on merit basis, taking into consideration the marks obtained in the qualifying examination and/or entrance examination, subject to the policy of the State Government/University. M. Ed shall also be merit-based with appropriateness to performance in the B. Ed degree. Thus, stringent admission processes guarantee that a college admits students who have a very solid foundation as well as an actual inclination for education.
