Government Degree College, Kathua (GDC Kathua) is a govt. University in Jammu and Kashmir, India situated at District Kathua. This affiliated college was founded in 1961 and has been preparing young generation for over half a century. GDC Kathua is located on a vast 24.375 acres piece of land and has various programs at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The college is affiliated to National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), which means that the college is quite serious with quality education. GDC Kathua has a total students enrolment of 3575 and total faculty member 52 which is once again confirm that the college provides a rightful environment for student development.

The college also houses and operates other facilities that is intended to acomplish the total learning needs of the students. This library was set up in 1962 and has general books of over 36000 and technical books of over 976 only. It also includes a UGC-funded Book Bank Section under which text books are issued to deserving students on permanent exchange basis. Kids and sports freaks are not going to be disappointed as GDC Kathua has facilities indoor play as well as outdoor sports. 

The indoor sports facility occupies the area of 5000 sqm and has a hall for shuttle badminton and table tennis and enclosed space for different kinds of combat. Playing fields include a basketball court, tennis court, as well as ample open area for cricket, association football, and track and field activities. The college also has boys’ and girls’ hostels and the students are usually allocated according to merit and distance.

GDC Kathua is aimed to provide 7 different courses under 6 degree programs to cover the different areas of learning of the students. The institution offers degree programs for full-time undergraduate in Arts (BA), Science (B.Sc), Commerce (B.Com), Computer Applications (BCA), Business Administration (BBA), Home Science (B.Sc Home Science). At the postgraduate level, the college offering an MA in Geography. These courses are meant to impart all the knowledge that is required and all the skills that are called for in our subjects.

GDC Kathua has set stiff criteria for admission. However, it is generally understood that affiliated colleges may well take into account numeric results in the qualifying examination and, on occasion, administer entrance tests or interviews. About 99 percent of the student client  hails from Jammu and Kashmir while only one percent students hail from other states of India. Notably, the college has a rather specific gender distribution; while 100% of the college’s undergraduates are female.
