The Government Dental College and Hospital, Hyderabad (GDCH) is the oldest institute for dental education and health care, started in 1958. This affiliated college is situated in Hyderabad, Telangana, and approved by the Dental Council of India (DCI). Currently, GDCH occupies a small plot of 2.29 acres and teaches 10 courses from 2 degree programmes with a total student intake capacity of 66. Today the college has a membership of 113 faculty members and thus a good student/faculty ratio. Being a government institution, GDCH trains and produces qualified dentists to offer quality dental health care to society.
The facilities that are available with GDCH for the development of student personal and academic achievement. The college has separate hostels for boys and girls for residential students to help them to reside comfortably. The campus is endowed with a health centre with adequate first aid services for emergencies that may arise from time to time. To support learners’ exercise regimen, the college offers a gym for people who have an interest in physical fitness. The library is a source of knowledge, with a wide-ranging number of journals related to dentistry and numerous materials and literature presented. The institution has all the possible levels of dental programmes, such as undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The BDS makes up the basic degree to be pursued by each candidate, and the college admits one hundred and fifty candidates for the course. At the postgraduate level, there are a total of nine MDS seats, each of which provides an opportunity to enrol in the chosen specialisations, including such ones as prosthodontics, periodontics and implantology, orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics, and oral medicine and radiology, et cetera. The BDS programme admissions are carried through the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET), which serves as a dental and medical entrance examination. Likewise for MDS programmes, the candidates are eligible only through the NEET MDS examination. For BDS, the minimum eligibility requirements are passing 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as mandatory subjects. For MDS, applicants should have a BDS degree from a recognized college. Certain eligibility requirements might be different for each specialization under the MDS course.
Application Process
Application process at Government Dental College and Hospital, Hyderabad, is different for BDS and MDS courses:
For BDS Program:
1. Appear for the NEET-UG exam held by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
2. Clear NEET-UG with the minimum required percentile according to category.
3. Get registered in the state-level counseling process (for Telangana) based on NEET-UG score.
4. Submit the online application form for GDCH in the process of counseling.
5. Upload all the documents as and when required, such as NEET score card, 10+2 mark sheets, domicile certificate, and category certificate (as applicable).
6. Pay the application fee as indicated by the counseling authority.
7. Report to the counseling session if selected, on the basis of merit and seat availability.
8. In case of a seat being allotted, report to GDCH for document verification and admission formalities.
For MDS Programs:
1. Take the NEET-MDS examination organized by the National Board of Examinations (NBE).
2. Classify NEET-MDS based on the achievement of the minimum percentile as specified in the category.
3. Get registered in the state level or All India Quota (AIQ) counseling procedure by applying through NEET-MDS score.
4. Complete online application form of GDCH and chosen MDS specialties during counseling procedure.
5. Upload every necessary document such as NEET-MDS score card, certificate of BDS degree, completion of internship certificate, and registration certificate issued by State Dental Council.
6. Pay the application fee as designated by the counseling authority.
7. Appear for the counseling session, if shortlisted, on merit and seat availability.
8. If a seat is allotted, appear at GDCH for document verification and admission procedure.
Degree wise Admission Process
BDS: The Bachelor of Dental Surgery course in GDCH has an approved strength of 100 seats. Entry into the BDS course is done on the basis of the candidate's performance in the NEET-UG test. The choice of candidate for admission is based on the NEET score, performance in 10+2, and other factors as per government guidelines.
MDS: Nine MDS specializations with an approved strength of 3 seats each are available in GDCH. The specializations are:
Admission into MDS programs is on the basis of performance in the NEET-MDS exam. The candidates should have completed their BDS degree and also met other requirements as specified by the Dental Council of India and the state government.
