Namely the Government Engineering College, Mandya, more commonly referred to as GEC Mandya, was established in the year 2007. This affiliated college is in Krishnarajpet, Mandya District, Karnataka and the college occupies a total land area of 10.35 acres. Recognised by The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, GEC Mandya has started four under graduate engineering courses with an intake of 864 students in total. The college has a faculty team of 26 committed members so there is a good proportion of students per teacher. Being a government institution it has numerous responsibilities in determining the technical education of the region.
It’s the policy of the college to produce a favorable condition for learning by availing state of art facilities to the learners. It functions as information centre as it has a stock of 7582 books with several specialization areas in engineering. It can also be mentioned that the library is technologically advanced where computerized services and online catalogue services through NewGenLib Open Source Software being provided. Fans of sport activities will be able to develop and practice all sorts of talents as access to sport facilities in the college is available. GEC Mandya also lays strong emphasis on practical training facilities, the college has separate state of art laboratories for each department. , students are well equipped in the IT department to meet modern technological trends owing to the institutions concise follow up of the IT development.
The GEC Mandya presently runs the following ten full-time BE programs, each for a total of four years. Some of these programs are Civil Engineering, Computer and Science Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. In each course, a total of 60 students have been approved, which means that the annual intakes for all these programs and courses is 240 students. For this reason, the distinctions in the various engineering disciplines give the learners an opportunity to pursue a course of their choice depending on their ambition.
Following the guidelines set by the Karnataka State Government, admission process in Government Engineering College, Mandya is maintained. The principles of the universities require students with intent on joining them to sit for the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) administered by Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). This exam in mathematics and sciences is the single determining factor in admission to all the engineering courses in the college.
It is also very important because through the KCET it is possible to determine the readiness of the candidate academically and also complete the admission process without favoritism. Although dates of the subsequent KCET can differ in calendar, it normally takes place in April or May. Prospective students getting enrolled in the exams have to keep checking the official website of KEA to know the updated dates of the exams and how to register for them.
