Government First Grade College was started in Koppal in the year 2002 with both men and women students in the campus situated at Koppal, Karnataka. This affiliated college recognised by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) offers a multitude of programmes in the undergraduate level. Located in a one and 4/10 acre land the college has a total students’ enrolment of three thousand five hundred and thirty seven students whereby 2,906 are male and 914 female students. The institution has a faculty strength of 12 members and offers 9 course under four degrees streams of arts, commerce, and science.

Government First Grade College is determined to give a good environment for educational activities for its students and the college provides all the necessary facilities that would help the students in their academic progression. The established library is well equipped to meet all literature and information demands that students within the institution may have regardless of their area of speciality. The college also has its own departmental laboratories where practical activities can be performed with appropriate hands on facilities and using the sophisticated instruments and tools required by individual departments. The campus also has an auditors that are used for ceremonies, seminars, cultural performances, and other social related activities enhancing the student’s activities. For the welfare of its students the college has a health centre where first aid is provided. The IT division in the institution is well developed and the institution has good IT policies that help it to update with technological developments to support student connectivity and resource sharing. If students want to tone up physically there is provided for them the nearest gym and all the sports facilities in the college for students’ physical exercise.

Government First Grade College, Koppal is in the process of offering a total of 9 under graduate programmes all of which are on a full time basis. The commerce and science faculty also completes the course list for arts, commerce and science disciplines to enable students make various choices- BBM , B.Sc and BA with various specialisations and B.Com. Although the number of student enrolment for each course is not defined, the total enrolment capacity of 3,537 has to be considered as sufficiently large. The college is exclusively undergraduate with all the students enrolled in undergraduate levels with a UG participation of 100%. First of all, it has to be mentioned that all the students are from within the state to emphasise on the local orientation of the college.
