Government Girl's Polytechnic, Almora, was established in 1987. It is one of the leading technical institutions in this picturesque town of Almora, Uttarakhand. This is an affiliated college spread over a spacious area of 10 acres in the Kumaon region of the Himalayas. This institute is AICTE-approved, continuously serving young minds in the field of technical education for more than three decades.

The polytechnic is installed with infrastructural facilities that are state of the art, which help in the all-round development of the students. Government Girl's Polytechnic, Almora, offers a wide range of diploma courses. All of them are three-year full-time courses, with the exception of the Diploma in Modern Office Management and Secretarial Practice, which runs for a duration of two years. At present, the strength of students taking up the four diploma courses being conducted by the institute is 152, and each class accommodates 30 students. Particular programs offered under this school include the Diploma in Information Technology, Diploma in Computer Science and Engineering, Diploma in Electronics Engineering, and the Diploma in Modern Office Management and Secretarial Practice. All these courses are designed in such a way that they would arm the students with modern skills and knowledge for survival in this fast-paced technological revolution. 

The admission procedure at Government Girl's Polytechnic, Almora is solely done based on the score and ranks of the students appearing in the Uttarakhand Joint Entrance Examination Polytechnics, Uttarakhand JEEP. The Uttarakhand JEEP is conducted by the Uttarakhand Board of Technical Education Roorkee, UBTER every year at the state level. This examination has an aim to provide admissions to the candidates who wish to pursue polytechnic in different government and private technical institutes in the state of Uttarakhand.
