Being a new age Government Medical College, the college started functioning from the session 2020 July in India. This affiliated college is from Kanker, Chhattisgarh and is recognised under the National Medical Commission (NMC) which dictates medical standards of the country. It admits co-ed students in pursuit of their medical dream irrespective of their origin or race. Despite its status as a relatively young college with teaching and ancillary staff establishment, the college has recruited 28 qualified members of faculties who are fully committed to their profession. The institute provides many amenities to enhance the learning process and personal development of its users. 

The college library plays a very important role of acting as a source of health care information for the college. Several facilities and well-equipped apparatus are installed in the modern laboratories so that the learners can be taught alongside practices. The college’s IT systems keep the students updated on current advancement in medical technologies and research. For all round developement, exercise through sports facilities are avaiable so as for students to develop both physically and academically. Understanding the need to do away with congested accommodation, the college has availably hostels for both male and female students in order to encourage the students to study hard and make the best out of their stay at the facility. The college also supports an alumni body that may be of assistance to current learners with information or prospects harvested by other alumni. 

At present, GMC Kanker provide only one basic program undergoing by the medical aspirants, i.e., MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery). It is a full-time course and prospective health officers take six years to complete the course with the aim of producing competent doctors. The college has been granted an intake capacity of 100 students for its MBBS course which is quite useful in forming human resources in the area. As for the detailed statistical information on the total student enrollment and graduation rates, it is impossible to provide it; however, the college is trying to develop its academic image and productivity. 

NEET play the vital role in admission process of the Government Medical College, Kanker. This particular examination is conducted for the students at the national level and it is the first hurdle to cross to be admitted for medical studies in India. Like all other colleges, the college follows the NEET schedule with regard to admission period; admission are done after the NEET results are released.
