Government Polytechnic, Amaritsar which was established in 1965 is a premier technical college situated at Amritsar, Punjab. This affiliated college established 5 decades ago is spread over massive area of 25 acres and has been carving the future of engineering career. Recognised by AICTE & PCI, the institute has a plethora of diploma courses that is available for different branches of engineering. Government Polytechnic, Amritsar has 939 number students intense and 37 number of faculty strength and it provides healthy atmosphere for technique study and skills training.

The Government Polytechnic has an unnecessarily large list of facilities that are intended to make the process of learning at the institute more productive for the students. The well-stocked library possesses more than 36,309 books and it has a collection in nearly all the categories of Books ranging from science, engineering, management, humanities etc,. The space for hands-on learning is the college workshop, in which students can work using the available modern equipment most important for their further careers. The institute also pays importance to the total personality development of the students through its sports and games facilities available for cricket, football, basketball, volleyball etc. Due to diverse nature of the students, Government Polytechnic, Amritsar has separate Hostel Blocks for Boys and Girls each having a strength of 180 and 90 respectively.

Government Polytechnic, Amritsar currently offers eight courses in two degree programmes which are all full time ones. The institute was traditionally catering to thee academic needs of its students through diploma courses in different engineering branches and a B, Pharma course. Spread across the various courses, the total approved intake sanctioned is 939 but the institute wants to prepare students as competent professionals to be able to come up to the expectations of industries. Though the information about number of graduate is lacking but able abacus institute is the best place of technical education with good courses and facilities.

Indeed, there are no precise detail concerning the procedure to follow as far as admission is concerned but it has been observed that the Government Polytechnic in Amritsar fully follows the non-discriminating policy on admission process. Unfortunately, information regarding accepted entrance exams in particular is lacking, but it is widely known that polytechnic institutes use the scores of state or nationwide entrance tests for enrolment. It also has the book bank scheme for the economically backward students which proves the institute’s policy of having equal chance for all the students.
