Government Polytechnic Barechhena, Almora, was established in 2014 as a technical institution in the heart of the scenic state of Uttarakhand, India. It is affiliated by the All India Council for Technical Education. The college currently has an enrolment of 82 students with specialised teaching from 7 faculty members. The Polytechnic runs two full-time diploma courses of three years duration each, in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering.

Government Polytechnic Barechhena campus has several modern facilities for the overall development of students, such as a Library with modern provisions acting as a knowledge hub wherein all technically enriched literature is available. The laboratories for each department are of world-class order so that hands-on work, in which technical education insists, will be made possible. Excellent IT infrastructure is available to keep the students updated with the latest development. Sports facilities will be provided to keep students physically fit and to generate team spirit among them for all-round development. On the campus, it has a cafeteria where students can get a good place to relax and socialise. It also has a guest room for visiting faculty or family members of students.

Government Polytechnic Barechhena, Almora offers two current Diploma programmes. Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and Diploma in Electrical Engineering. Both these are full-time courses and have a duration of three years. The total intake capacity of students is 120 with 60 each for both the programmes, thus enabling focused attention and quality education in these two core engineering disciplines.

Admissions to Government Polytechnic Barechhena, Almora are mostly made on the basis of the Uttarakhand Joint Entrance Examination Polytechnics (Uttarakhand JEEP). The entrance exam is a filtering methodology for admitting inspiring students to the diploma programmes in the institute. In fact, the test is one that normally evaluates the aptitude of candidates in subjects relevant to the study of engineering.
