Government Polytechnic, Chamoli, was established in the year 1979 at Gauchar, Uttarakhand. This affiliated college with the state technical university is considered among the best technical institutions, approved by AICTE New Delhi, offering various diploma programmes in different streams of engineering. The sprawling 5.6-acre campus of the institute has a total student enrolment of 361 and a faculty strength of 4. Government Polytechnic, Chamoli aims to tap the full potential of students in providing quality technical education that has been set to revolutionise into good careers in an ever-constantly changing scenario of today's technological world.

Government Polytechnic, Chamoli offers four full-time diploma programs designed according to the demands of the growing industry in each field. This institute organises the courses of Diploma in Information Technology, Diploma in Electronics Engineering with Consumer Electronics, Diploma in Civil Engineering with Environmental and Pollution Control, and the D.Pharma course. The intake of the entire college in these four courses is 140 students, so providing every student with a very focused and personal learning experience is the main objective of the institute. These courses are of 2 to 3 years.                 

The admission procedure of Government Polytechnic, Chamoli, is merit-based and is carried out in a systematic way. All prospective students shall be required to appear for the Uttarakhand Joint Entrance Examination Polytechnics (Uttarakhand JEEP), which is conducted every year by the Uttarakhand Board of Technical Education, Roorkee. Admission into the Government Polytechnic, Gauchar, shall be granted on the basis of the above-mentioned entrance examination through counseling. It is through such a stringent selection process that the most meritorious students find their way into the most prestigious programmes of these institutes.
