The Government Polytechnic College at Moti Nagar, Balaghat, was founded in 1962 and is one of the oldest technical colleges in the region. This affiliated college sanctioned by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) presents several diploma courses in engineering fields. Situated on a 10.5-acre land, respectively, the college has a total admission capacity of 603 students and a number of faculty members is 15. At the core of the institute, there are four depicted technical education diploma courses, each of which address varied classes of engineering and technology.

It is with such pride that the college boasts of the provision of a host of structures which complement the learning process of the learners. It has state-of-the art facilities for all the departments; laboratories are vital for technical education. A central library is also available, which contains over 8,000 books of fiction, non-fiction, text books, magazines and newspapers. Boys hostel has a capacity of 100 students, while girls hostel with construction completed in 2019 has a capacity of 50 students. Both hostels are just adequate to meet the corporeal basic needs of students, are provided with necessary amenities, and have mess facilities. The campus also has a cafeteria, through which meal needs of the learners and other members of the academia are met. For individuals who have an interest in physical activities, there is provision for sports facilities; however, a balance is struck between studies and recreation.

This institution is Government Polytechnic College, Balaghat, offering four full-time diploma courses. The duration of each of these courses is 3 years. Such course comprise a Diploma in Civil Engineering, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Diploma in Electrical Engineering, and Diploma in Computer Science and Engineering. Each programme has an approved intake of 60 students; thus, the total number of seats established for all the courses offered are 240. Such a variety is possible in its offer, that student can select a field that is relevant to his potential occupation.

Admission to the Government Polytechnic College in Balaghat is simple for those courses and students who get selected depending on the merit list. Interested students are to write the Madhya Pradesh Pre Polytechnic Test, also known as MP PPT, from the department of Technical Education of Madhya Pradesh. The said entrance examination is used primarily for admission to all the diploma courses offered in the college. The MP PPT is said to be conducted every year and students are encouraged to check relevant official notifications for updates over the exams and admissions.
