Government Polytechnic College, Shajapur has started in 2010 It is an affiliated college situated at Vijay Nagar, Shajapur, Distt. M.P. This technical institution approved from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) provides diploma programmes in engineering field. Located on A.B Road, in the ITI campus this technical institution has for the past 13 years been providing education in the region. The ITI has a strength of ten members in the faculty and offers education in only the mechanical and electrical engineering streams.

Government Polytechnic College, Shajapur has several facilities that may be viewed as a contribution to the development of the college as well as improving students learning. As a customer, a library is designed to be a source of knowledge and delivers a vast amount of academic knowledge to the students. Co-curricular activities for this type of students include those that belong to sports and games activities such as table tennis, badminton, chess, carrom, athletes and athletic activities like discus, javelin and hammer throw. Besides, the activities enhance physical fitness among the students and they also create interaction, team work and sportsmanship. The college also has well equipped departmental laboratory which is essential particularly in vocational education in a technical college. Finally, enhanced computer systems and networks have been adopted at the institute to equip every student with adequate knowledge on the modern technological systems in his/ her area of specialisation.

Government Polytechnic College, Shajapur currently offers two full-time diploma programmes: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and Diploma in Electrical Engineering as its main areas of study. All the above programmes take three years to complete now approved to take 60 students per course hence giving two courses a total of 120 students. These courses shall equip the students with adequate academic knowledge in their areas of specialisation thus preparing them to fit easily into the technical work force or to other higher levels of study.

Admission in the Government Polytechnic College, Shajapur has certain predetermined criterion and is competitive. For admission purpose, the students seeking admission in diplomas Courses must have to qualify Pre Polytechnic Test (PPT) organised by Professional Examination Board (PEB) Bhopal. Subsequent to the examination, students are admitted through the Centralised Online Counselling conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education, Madhya Pradesh (DTEMP). At times, there may also be college level of admission as well known as freshman admission for students joining college from high school. These two approaches produce a balance to ensure that only the right and worthy candidates are hired due to equal opportunities given to all the non-favored qualified candidates.
