Government Polytechnic College is one of the premiere technical colleges in Umaria, Madhya Pradesh and was founded in 2010. This affiliated college established under the AICTE is designed to provide quality education in various specialisations of engineering. The Government Polytechnic College, Umaria has four full-time diploma courses where each course has study duration of three years. These programmes are relevant in making sure that the students attain the basic knowledge in the fields of engineering they aspiringly wish to pursue. The college is now offering various undergraduate courses totaling to 228 intake capacity to enhance competitive student to faculty ratio for effective familiarisation and learning. The courses are Diploma in Mining, Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical.

For admission into polytechnic, students seeking admission have to clear the Madhya Pradesh Pre-Polytechnic Test (MP PPT) conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB). This exam is used as the gateway through which all students seeking admission into the various diploma courses of the college are admitted through. After the exam, the Directorate of Technical Education, Madhya Pradesh carries out an off-campus online counselling procedure. This counsellor helps a student select a course of his/her preference and college offered based on the results got in the MP PPT and the places available.
