Medical Sivagangai Medical College and Hospital [GSMCH], is fairly young institution that has been established in the year of 2012 and located in the Mela-Vaniyangudi, Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu. This affiliated college recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC) have its medical programs on a large area of 50 acres. This medical college has a total admission capacity of 600 students and has a strength of 99 faculty members at this GSMCH medical college which is a favorable condition for having a good medical college. Currently, the institute has 7 courses in offer across three intakes of degree programmes focusing on different disciplines in medicine. Since it was established as a co-educational institution it accepts students from different backgrounds and hence creates a conducive learning environment.

In addressing the need of its students, GSMCH has equipped itself with a line-up of services for its students’ benefit. The campus encompasses single-sex hostels for boys and girls for adequacy of out station students accommodation facilities. A standard library is defined as an information center, and modern science laboratories can meet the practice-oriented needs. A health centre which is a key feature in a college is inclusive of first aid facility at the college to ensure that students’ welfare is given paramount importance. In their mission of offering holistic development, GSMCH has made provisions for a sporting discipline, exercise facilities. The campus is well equip with modern infrastructure facility in IT which will improve the learning process. Extra facilities are canteen, convention hall for celebrations and seminars, and means of transport for students and employees. The college also has alumni affiliation as other of keeping the alumni connected after their college education is complete.

Education at the institute comprises of various medical courses, at the undergraduate and post graduate levels. The largest stream of the course structure in GSMCH is the MBBS programme which CATS several subcategories of MD and MS programmes. All programmes are resident-based and full time in order to provide deep and uncompromised medical education. The total approved intake for all the courses is 126 seats and thus offers enough chances for the candidates interested in medical field. Unfortunately, data on graduation of the latest year is lacking but the course structure and facilities of the institute left no doubt regarding the quality imparted.

Government Sivagangai Medical College and Hospital is highly selective about its students and only accepts candidates through the following admission process. Admissions to MBBS program are carried out through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) for the current academic year. Prospective candidates are required to pass this exam that is undertaken once in every country for one to be admitted. MD and MS programmes admissions for postgraduates require the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post Graduates or NEET-PG. 

This standardised approach protects the limited seats for outstation students as well as selects the most deserving candidates. The admit process of the institute is clear without compromising with the government set norms of reservation policy. It may be difficult to get a scholarship information but as a government department, different scholarships should be available in relation to government scholarship schemes.
