Government Zirtiri Residential Science College, Mizoram which started its journey in 1980 has become a symbol of Scientific education in the north eastern state of India. Located at Durtlang Leitan, Aizawl, this affiliated college lies in a small plot of 3.9 acre only catering for a specific sector of education. The institution has however been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), a move seen to have been embarked on to foster the improvement of the quality of education that is offered in the institution. As of now, the college has an effective student population of 649 and a teaching staff of 54, thus, encouraging a close experience. Playing fields that include a playground for football, cricket, and athletics are available for sports lovers both indoors and outdoors. The college also has a clean centrally located canteen facilities and multi purpose auditorium with a sitting capacity of over 400 and used for seminars, trainings, exanimations etc.

The institution offers 11 full time regular courses like B.Sc Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Mathematics, Home Science, Geology Electronics, Bio Chemistry, BCA. The total student intake capacity provided is 649 and in the capacity charts, specific intake for different courses are not always mentioned. However, it should be noted that the facility offering the B.Sc Chemistry Honors programme has an approved capacity to accommodate only forty students, which provide an impression on the class sizes in the college.
