Gushkara Mahavidyalaya, Purba Bardhaman: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

Gushkara Mahavidyalaya was established in the year 1965 in Purba Bardhaman of West Bengal. It provides students with an array of choice undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in a variety of fields. Located over a campus area of 7.76 acres, the college offers a strength of total students as 3,692 and faculty members as 37 in number. Gushkara Mahavidyalaya offers 22 subjects under six disciplined courses such as Arts, Science, Commerce etc. The college aims at promoting quality provision of education as well as academic standards within the society.

The Gushkara Mahavidyalaya  has adequate and up to date facilities to offer support to meet the academic and co-curricular needs of the students. Currently the library is two storied building having a total floor area of 4500 sq.ft having collection of more than 29000 tome and bi annual examination facility for the needy and deserving students through book bank system. The institution has ten spacious and adequately equipped laboratories for science and commerce streams available for Accountancy, Botany, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics, Physics and Zoology. A Computer laboratory with internet linked computers for Commerce Mathematics and other courses is provided. The college ground has made available football, cricket, basketball and badminton, volley ball facility for sport persons besides having an able Physical Education department to groom the talents in sports activities.

This college also provides a number of course combinations in order to meet the need of different students’ ambitions. The college offers 22 subjects across 6 programmes with undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. The full-time courses offered by the institution are as follows 2: The total student enrolment for all programs offered in this institution is 3,692. The basic subjects can be Ba (Hons) in Bengali, English, History and political science etc. and B. Sc (Hons) in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology etc. The college also provides B.Com programmes with branches of Accountancy.

The course offered at Gushkara Mahavidyalaya accepts students based on their performance and results for all courses. Applicants are expected to apply for classes early in the year during the admission period which is usually advertised online by the college. The college does not state any preferred entrance examinations but candidates are given admission based on their performance in their qualifying tests. The institution has available hostel accommodations to male and female students, preference being given to the SC/ST, and those in honours classes. The boys ‘ Hostel “Vivekananda Chhatrabas” holds about 40 and the girls ‘Hostel “Nivedita Chhatrinibas” about 60 strength of students. These facilities aremetion especially the students from distant areas as they afford them with ideal studying conditions.
