The Indian College of Education was started in the year 2006 and is an affiliated college situated at Vellore in Tamil Nadu, India. The Sri Sharadaba Education Society’S institute is a co-educational institution this institute is situated on a small area of 1.1 acre of land, and NCTE approved. The college presently has two specialised education programmes with a combined enrolment capacity of 325, and faculty of 18. As the name suggests, it has a dedicated emphasis on preparing teachers having a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Education and other related fields. Being located in Vellore, the college has the purpose of enhancing the effectiveness of teaching related human resource in the region.
Indian college of education includes among the following; The college library has a collection of over 4,000 books, with the library’s intention of expanding its collection electronically. Physical Science laboratory, Biological Science laboratory and Psychology laboratory for practical sessions in each stream. The institution also boasts smart classes which aise the teaching learning process through use of modern technology. For health of the body, the college has sections for sport and a gym. An auditorium can be used for events, seminars, etc Meanwhile the IT facilities comprise of an air conditioned computer section with a broadband internet facility. Other facilities are the cafeteria, medical health center with a first aid station, and guesthouse for visiting faculty as well as their families.
Two full time courses in education are offered by the college with intake facilities for undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses. The programme of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) has 100 seats while the Master of Education (M.Ed) programme has 50 seats making a total of 150 of seats for the two courses. These programmes are meant for student who wish to pursue a carrier in teaching and or educational administration.
The admission in the Indian College of Education includes the merit of the students through the marks of the qualifying examination as well as any entrance test taken by the student. For entry into its B.Ed programmes the college adhere to the guidelines laid down by the State Government/U.T. Administration and the University. These extra conditions may form part of the selection criteria depending on the existing guidelines at that time. In the same way, the admissions in the M. Ed programme are merit based which indeed call for the marks of the qualifying examination and/or the result of the entrance test.
