Kamaraj College, Thoothukudi was started in the year 1966 and is affiliated to Thoothukudi Tamil Nadu. NAAC accredited, AICTE approved, this college and institution presents students with a wide spectrum of courses. Spread across 50 acres, Kamaraj College hosts 4,282 students with 87% offered undergraduate degrees and the remaining 13% post graduate. Sex: 2,792 male students and 1,490 female students which still reveals the college has equal male and female students. Consisting of 159 faculty members, the institute offers 54 courses in 11 degree programmes in arts, sciences commerce, and computer applications.

Achieving its aim of putting the students through a wide learning experience is the force behind Kamaraj College. In matters concerning accommodation the campus has different hostels for boys and girls which have study room, recreational hall, sports and indoor games facilities. Sixteen small-screen computers for browsing and researching online facilities have been procured and fitted in the main library; we have developed more than one thousand four hundred new books for the library stock. For those interested in physical activities, the college has given a face lift by adding new volley ball and kabaddi courts, and an enhanced chess area. The IT infrastructure also involves tally laboratory with 32 computers that help commerce students. Others include a canteen, an air conditioned conference hall a 400 seated theatre hall, wireless facility, well equipped laboratories, a new 200 seated air conditioned smart classroom with projection facilities.

Kamaraj College has an impressive list of courses to offer its student population. There are 54 courses offered in the institution, which are full time undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate programmes. The college provides a combination of liberal arts and sciences and other contemporary courses such as BA programmes, B.Com programme, B.Sc programme, M.Sc and Ph.D. The approved intake for all the courses student is 3194 only. This college in the past academic year recorded high number of graduations showing the college’s capacity to provide quality education to its learners.

Kamaraj College has their own admission systems but they admit candidates depending on the merit list set by the university to which the college affiliated. Undergraduate and postgraduate, the college offer a number of courses in each category For each course, there is a set admission criteria. However, it does not have its own test but it can use scores of the relevant test of national or state level for some of its courses. The institution has provision and or grants scholarship to deserving students. About 3,630 undergraduate students and 471 postgraduate students were reimbursed in academic year 2023, which shows the efforts of the college to making education affordable. The colleges like Kamaraj College have produced many alumni who have made mark in different fields but unfortunately the data available with me do not contain names of such personalities.
