Lotus College of Optometry, Mumbai, and has continued to develop to become a revered institution for education in optometry. The College offers various optometry programs that would cater to the need of students aspiring to make a career in the profession. Affiliated to a certain university, the Lotus College of Optometry lays down clearly defined processes for selection of those admitted to its programs. The admission process of Lotus College of Optometry usually starts before the beginning of each academic year. Although the dates may vary, it is wise for the applicants to prepare early for submission of their application. 

The college is giving undergraduate and postgraduate courses on optometry with very much different eligibility criteria and admission requirements. Undergraduate admissions would normally require 10 + 2 with science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Mathematics) from any recognized board. For admission into the postgraduate program, candidates are required to have obtained a degree in optometry (or in some allied field) from a recognized institute or university.

Application Process

The admission process encompasses fair evaluation of applications. This is a general outline of the stepwise procedure.

1. Application Form. Candidates will fill the official application form, which is usually available on the official website of the college or from the college office.

2. Document Submission. Candidates must submit documents along with a duly filled application form which may comprise:

  • 10th & 12th standard mark sheets
  • Graduation degree and mark sheets (for postgraduate applicants)
  • Valid ID proof
  • Passport-size photographs
  • Any other certificates or documents stated by the college

3. Application Fee. Candidates shall pay the application fee amount prescribed. The application instructions shall have details of the payment modes and the amount.

4. Entrance Examination: Any entrance examination for applicants is dependent on the program for which they applied. The syllabus and pattern of the examination are to be communicated by the college.

5. Interview. Personal interviews will be conducted for the shortlisted candidates, especially in the case of postgraduate and doctoral programs.

6 Merit List. A merit list is formed from academic records and subjects that formed a part of the entrance examination and prior performance on the interview with presiding faculty for each candidate.

7. Admission Confirmation: Selected candidates are informed for their admission to be completed through fee payment and submission of original documents for verification.

Degree wise Admission Process

B.Optom: The B.Optom programme is one of the major undergraduate programme offered at Lotus College of Optometry. For this course, selection of a candidate is based mainly on their 10+2 marks in science subjects. Other methods of selection may include entraining tests or interviews.

M.Optom: Candidates must have either a B.Optom or equivalent degree in Optometry from an accredited institution to be considered for Master of Optometry. Assessment may include brief screening of applicant's performance record, entrance examination, and interview to determine the applicant's suitability for advanced studies in optometry.

Ph.D. Optometry: The Ph.D. program in Optometry is conferred upon those students that obtain the degree upon completion of research. The main pre-requisites for admission consideration are M.Optom or some equivalent postgraduate degree in optometry. A PhD program may be initiated by presenting a research proposal, which is then followed by an entrance test and interview with the research committee.
