Madurai Institute of Social Sciences (MISS), founded in the year 1969 is an affiliated college situated in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. The institute is NAAC accredited spread on a campus area of 3.15 acre. MISS provides a total of 20 academic programmrs which are spread over 12 degrees which are mainly includes Social Sciences, Management Science and Computer Science. The college has a student intake of 827 and  the number of faculties is 9; the institute has a balanced student faculty ratio. This is in terms of gender distribution the student base is 62% male while 38% are female with 77% undergraduates and 23% postgraduates.

To make sure that the students get the appropriate support in developing adequate study skills, MISS has a number of amenities for use. The library with all modern facilities and accommodation of a vast number of books and journals and the user, have the facility of open access system. MISS offers different hostels for male and female students with basic services like Wi-Fi internet access. Computerised lab is also available to allow the student sharpen their technical aspect while on the other hand diseases and accidents treatment are provided from a well-equipped health centre. For physical fitness, a separate gym timing for boys and girls is provided in the school. The college ground and indoor amenities involve provided for different sports events which are badminton, volleyball, cricket and so on.

MISS has assembled a diverse programmes that holds throughout the various education levels. In terms of field of study, the institute offer 20 courses which comprise full-time undergraduate and postgraduate studies and part-time and doctoral courses. Some of these courses are BSW, MSW, MBA, M.Phil in Social Work, and Management Studies and PhD programmes. It also provides postgraduate diploma courses in personnel management & industrial relations, counselling, and computer applications. The total student enrolment for all programmes is 827.

The admission to the courses in Madurai Institute of Social Sciences is said to be open and based on merit. The institute may use performance in prior qualifying examinations to offer particular courses. MISS provide the opportunity of taking normal courses and self-financed courses and this has allowed the college to come up with this opportunity. At present, it has an active Alumni Association which was started in 1986 and makes a major contribution towards the development of the college. Degree wise Admission Process

B.Sc Courses: MISS offers B.Sc courses in Computer Science, Information Technology, and Psychology (Self-Finance). The candidate gets admission to the above-mentioned courses based on the performance in the 10+2 examination with stress laid on the course-related subjects like Mathematics and Science.

B.Com and BBA Courses: Admission for B.Com, B.Com (Computer Applications), and BBA (Self-Finance) courses is done by the selection of candidates on the basis of performance in their 10+2 examination with a special focus on Commerce and related subjects.

BA English (Self-Finance): The admission to the course of BA English is done on the basis of the candidate's performance in the 10+2 exam, with specific focus on the English language proficiency.

BSW (Self-Finance): The admission to the Bachelor of Social Work course is on the basis of the candidate's performance in 10+2 as well as social work aptitude.

MSW and MHRM Programmes: Applicants for Master of Social Work (MSW) and Master of Human Resource Management (MHRM) should have completed a related bachelor's programme. Admission may be on graduation marks and possibly an interview.

MBA (Self-Finance): Admission to the MBA programme is usually on the basis of the individual's bachelor's degree marks and possibly on entrance test and interview procedure.

M.Sc Computer Science (Self-Finance): A bachelor's degree holder in Computer Science or allied streams is eligible to apply for admission. Admission would be on graduation marks and possibly an entrance test.

M.Phil and Ph.D. Programmes: For M.Phil Social Work and Management Studies, and Ph.D. in Social Work (full-time and part-time), a relevant master's degree is necessary. Admission would usually consist of an entrance test and/or interview.

Postgraduate Diploma Courses: MISS offers PGD in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management and Computer Applications (PGDCA), Counselling. The admission for these programmes is generally through a bachelor's degree in the relevant field.
