Maharani’s Science College for Women, Mysore – Dr. A.N. Rao A Women’s college situated in the centre of the city of Mysore, Karnataka was established in the year 1917. This affiliated college recognised by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) possesses a wide spectrum of science courses in undergraduate as well as postgraduate levels. Situated on a 5 acre of land, the college holds a total of 4,287 students and having 92 faculty members. The institution boasts of 33 courses in 3 degrees and offers a number of scientific related courses like Chemistry, Physics and Zoology and Computer Application.
Maharani’s Science College for Women ensures that the proper positive learning environment is provided to the students. It provides array of facilities for balancing academic as well as personal development. It also occupies up-to-date facilities, including, for example, modern laboratories for practical classes in a given science. A big library remains as a central knowledge centre which is relevant for gaining access to various academic information. Science college women namely Maharani provides 14 courses in which it emphasises more on full course programmes. The course currently available cuts across the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, more so in the fields of Science and Technology. In a college level, the college provides several basket of the B. Sc programme based on the combination of subjects for the students to enable them to choose areas of study based on personal preferences and career aspirations. The postgraduate programmes consists of M.Sc programmes in disciplines like Chemistry, Physics, Zoology and Mathematics etc. Also, as a market response to the IT employment needs that are increasing, the college hosts a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA). Though, there are no details on the number of seats available for each of them; however, the total strength of the college is 4187 students.
More so, Maharani’s Science College for Women has a merit based and an inclusive policy to all students seeking admission to the college. Exam dates however are not given while the admissions may possibly follow the college’s academic calendar of the affiliating university. The major target market mainly consists of students within Karnataka as 100% of the undergraduate and postgraduate students are from within the state. This is as a result of the college’s regional centric nature and its mandate of empowering women within this region through education. The college however provides scholarships for qualified students, whereby 3,300 undergraduate and 137 postgraduate students were reimbursed in the 2022 academic term. More to that, having been established as a women’s college it houses only females, current student population falls at 3,353 undergraduate and 244 post graduate students. This female bias underlines the apprehension of the institution to the fact that education in the sciences is empowering women.

College infrastructure is not bad, it is old college, now government started to building a new building, college classrooms are big, but due to more students in college it is not enough,, laboratory facilities are not bad.
