Mahavir Cancer Institute and Research Centre, Phulwarisharif, Patna, Bihar, is a notified specialised medical institution for cancer care and research. The affiliated college was started in the year 1998 and has been a frontrunner in oncology education and treatment for the past two decades. The compact campus of 3 acres provides an intimate learning environment. With the current enrolment of 17 students and a faculty strength of 6, the institute provides personalised attention and practical training in its various oncology specialisations.
Different facilities have been set up in Mahavir Cancer Institute and Research Centre for helping not only academics but also patient care. There is a well-stocked library regarding medical literature and research resources. The departmental laboratories provide practical training in different oncological procedures. It also has a health centre that provides first-aid services to students and the working staff. The seminar halls are three in number, of varying capacities, the largest catering to an audience of 400 people. The departmental seminars, interdepartmental teaching, guest lectures, and national/international conferences are held within these halls. The institute also has modern IT infrastructural support for digital learning and research activities. There is a cafeteria that offers relaxation moments where students and staff unwind and interact freely. The institute offers a wide array of courses oriented towards oncology in different levels and specialisations in the field of cancer care.
The five full-time courses entail three three-year DNB programmes in Surgical Oncology, Radiotherapy, and Pathology. These are post-MBBS courses that provide supplementary training in a particular area of oncology. Apart from that, the institute offers a two-year Post M.Sc. Diploma in Medical Physics and a two-year Diploma in Medical Radiotherapy Technology.
The admission process into Mahavir Cancer Institute and Research Centre is by picking an aspirant with a strong base in medical sciences and aspiration in oncology. From the DNB course, the candidates normally must have finished their MBBS and sometimes may be required to succeed in the NEET-PG examination. While admission to the Post M.Sc.
