National Education Society's Ratnam College of Arts Science and Commerce, Mumbai: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

Ratnam College of Arts, Science and Commerce is an affiliated college of National Education Society. Established in the year 1963, it is an educational institution standout in Bhandup, Mumbai. Accredited by NAAC, this college offers a diverse undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum over the streams of arts, science, and commerce. The college spreads over a compact campus of 0.802 acres, with a total enrolment of 2,181 students. The male to female student ratio is also well-balanced at 818:1,164. Backing the institution are its 21 member-strength faculty, which offers 14 courses spread across 7 degree programmes for varied specialisations in arts, science, and commerce. The college has an aim to provide a proper learning environment for the students and keep it modern in comparison with other institutions to cultivate knowledge about the subjects.

The third-floor college library covers 2800 sq. ft. full of books and periodicals related to the subjects of courses, competitive examinations, and other general interest-oriented study materials. Even home lending facilities and reference sections help the students. Science laboratories are well-designed and also well-equipped with all the safety standards. The science labs have facilities like eyewash stations for chemistry practicals, fire extinguisher, and proper ventilation. The computer centre and laboratory with a total of 54 computers are spread in different departments. For extracurricular activities and events, Ratnam College has an auditorium with a seating strength of 700 people and an audio-visual room. It offers diverse academic courses for all students with many interests and diverse career aspirations. 

The college has spread its offerings to 14 courses-including full-time undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes. Undergraduate courses are being offered as Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc), Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), B.Sc in Computer Science, B.Com in Banking and Insurance, B.Com in Accounting and Finance, B.Sc in Information Technology, and Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS). The college is also offering postgraduate courses like M.Com, M.Sc in Physics, and M.Sc in Chemistry. Doctoral courses (Ph.D.) are available in Botany, Physics, and Commerce also. With 2,181 student intakes within all programmes, it goes to illustrate the fact that the college believes in the rigorous provision of quality education for a huge number of students.

The admission process at Ratnam College is based on merit, with specific criteria varying for different programmes. For undergraduate courses like B.Sc Computer Science, students are admitted with aggregate marks in HSC or equivalent examination particularly considering performance in science subjects like physics, chemistry, and mathematics. The admissions at the postgraduate courses, for instance M.Sc Physics and M.Sc Chemistry, are allocated according to percentage aggregate marks secured at B.Sc degree examination from either Mumbai University or any other recognised university. The college has students' applications from across India, but only 1 percent of its total student population is from outside the state, so it is very locally present.
