Nirmala Institute of Education was set up in 1963 It is one of the most reputed educational institute situated at Altinho, Panjim, Goa. This college for both males and female is an affiliated college recognized by the NAAC and approved by NCTE for pursing a teaching diploma or degree course. The institute is located across a spacious campus of 4 acres and provides five degree programs of education and counseling with total enrolment of 339 students. The institute is proud of having 19 faculty members enabling the institute to keep student and faculty ratio low. Nirmala Institute of Education has established itself in the following specializations: teacher education; guidance and counselling; and wellness counselling.

The institute offers numerous amenities that would enrich the learning process of its learners. The library is fairly endowed with about one thousand, three hundred and ninety- nine books of different genres all in relation to the field of education, besides having subscriptions to some journals and newspapers. It has NLIST for accessing e-journals and book bank also. The campus has two big ICT laboratory for ICT courses; one in B.ED wing and the other in the Annexe block. For physical fitness at this institute, sports facilities and a gym are available to the learners. The college canteen is responsible for satisfying a parts of the population’s palate for food and beverages with regards to this institution being a college that is made up of both staff and students. Further more the institute also has hostel facilities for both male and female students that are comfortable well ventilated rooms with modem facilities.

Nirmala Institute of Education provides various specialization in full time programmes in education and counseling. The institute's academic portfolio includes 5 programs: The education programs include Bachelors in Education: B.Ed, Masters in Education: M.Ed, Diploma in Elementary Education: D.El.Ed, Post Graduate Diploma in Guidance and Counselling and Masters in Wellness Counselling. 

The approved intake per course is 30 students; therefore, the institute guarantees appropriate admission of quality education for all learners implemented in small classrooms.

Student admission procedures differ depending on the course of study in Nirmala Institute of Education. For the B.Ed and M.Ed programs the students are selected on merit as per marks secured in the qualifying examination and/or entrance examination as per the norms of state government and university to which the institution is affiliated. Wellness Counselling programme under the Master of Arts has a special admission process and the applications for the program are available in May. Interview process is used in the selection of the candidates, while, different documents are produced for the confirmation of admission. For the D.El.Ed program an entrance test in the subjects taught from standard I to VII is conducted and selection is based on an interview.
