Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy (NIPT) started in the year 1997 is one of the premier Colleges under NITTE (Deemed University) at Deralakatte, Mangalore, Karnataka. Since its establishment NIPT has been offering physiotherapy education and training on over 1.25 acre complex accumulated over two decades of its existence. The programs being provided at the institute are multidimensional and include Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT), Master of Physiotherapy (MPT) with specialization in seven diverse areas and Doctorate of Philosophy in Physiotherapy. NIPT has a total student capacity of 375 and 15 faculty members which provides fullest attention and quality education. It is for this reason that classes offered at the institute are diverse, facilities are modern and it provides intensive practical training.

The institute has nine courses in total and those are spread across three degree levels. The largest school offering the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) programme is a four-year, full-time programme completed with an internment period of six months’ compulsory rotatory internship. Comprehensive at the postgraduate level, NIPT presents seven unique MPT programs, all of which take two years to complete. Some of these are Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Cardio Respiratory Disorders and Intensive Care, Neurological and Psychosomatic Disorders, Musculoskeletal Disorders and Sports Physiotherapy, Community and Sports. However, for the researchers inclined, there is full time Ph.D. program in physiotherapy, which usually takes 6 years to complete. The BPT program has an initial intake of 60 students and the In-take capacity of MPT and PhD depends on its specialization and availability of resources.

The admission criteria at NIPT Mangalore entail performance in the qualifying exams as criteria for admission into the institution. For the BPT program, aspirants who have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with optional subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology only, need to apply. The MPT programs thus admit candidates with a BPT degree from an accredited University. Ph.D. program normally presupposes the possession of the Master’s degree in Physiotherapy or some related field.
