Omayal Achi College of Nursing (OACN) was begun in 1992 and is one of the premier nursing colleges in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. On this 2.4 acres of land, this affiliated college provides quality education in nursing as it is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC). OACN is aimed at providing a set of 12 courses at 4 levels of degrees for professional specialization in nursing. The college has the total enrolment of students of 199 and at present 27 faculties, thus providing the good curing ratio and establishing excellent teaching-learning environment. In order to meet the different needs of students pursuing careers in nursing, the college provides the following nursing courses. OACN currently offers 12 courses offered which are full-time undergraduate, postgraduate, and Doctor of Philosophy. BSN is the college’s flagship program with an intake capacity of fifty students to enable the preparation of competent nurses in nursing sciences. In the postgraduate level, the college specialty M.Sc programs in Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing offering 6, Mental Health Psychiatric Nursing, Medical Cardio Thoracic Nursing. However, for those wanting to further their studies, OACN offers Doctor of Philosophy in Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing and Doctor of Philosophy in Community Health Nursing in full and part time. Further, the college provides Post Basic Diploma in Oncology Nursing for those who want to take their career further.

For B.Sc Nursing which is the most popular course for which 50 seats are available, the eligibility is completion of 10+2 with science stream. Degree courses like the M.Sc Nursing with options such as Medical-Surgical specialties, Community Health, Maternal Neonatal care etc., accommodate only 6 students each and for these the candidate needs to complete the B.Sc Nursing degree.
