The institution, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru College of Agriculture and Research Institute (PAJANCOA & RI), was set up in 1987 at Karaikal, Puducherry. It is an affiliated college that is focused on agriculture offering 7 programmes across level two and level five. PAJANCOA & RI has 621 students, of which 59 are faculty members the gender distribution is; 54% female undergraduate 67% female postgraduate. This institute receives students from different origins such that a statistically significant number of students, 25% of them, comes from other states in the country.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru College of Agriculture and Research Institute educates and trains students in diverse agriculture course in both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. The institute provides 7 programmes: University offers two four years integrated degree courses, namely B.Sc Agriculture (Hons) and B.Sc Horticulture (Hons). At post graduate level, it has five two-year M.Sc courses in Genetics and Plant Breeding, Vegetable Science, Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Agricultural Economics and Agronomy. All programmes are day time dated and this is inline with the institutes intense, practical base agriculturally oriented programmes.

PAJANCOA & RI offers admission to only those candidates who secure a high rank in the entrance examination, and the number of seats available at the time of counselling session is also important as far as admission is concerned. For undergraduate programmes, the institute accepts validity of score of Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG). Candidates are expected to have passed their Higher Secondary (10+2) or their equivalent with the right subjects. Any student with a documented disability who wishes to apply for undergraduate admission must do so before July 1st of the year they actually intend to enter Wellesley; however, they may not apply for admission after 25 years of age. As for graduate programmes there are some features in admission rules: the admission is organised according to the candidates’ performance and free places. There are also provisions for admitting the Foreign Nationals/NRI/NRI sponsored candidates in the undergraduate programmes.

PAJANCOA & RI provides scholarship to aid its students. In the 2022 academic year, 62 under graduate students and 2 post graduate students was issued with reimbursement proving that the institute is sensitive to the fate of students in terms of fees. The college also offers training facility and placement wait through its Training and Placement Cell.
