People's College, Mokokchung: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

People’s College, Mokokchung is an affiliated college which was set up in 1984 in Kumlong Ward, Mokokchung, Nagaland. This university is a small scale university with a 2 acre and offers its students a small scale learning atmosphere. The total intake includes 111 students and the faculty has 14 members, which makes the college student friendly and provide quality education. Currently, the People’s College provides six undergraduate courses all under the BA programme with a variety of humanities specialisations.

People’s College, interested in bringing a variety of better learning facilities to cater for its students. The library is notable structurally, as well as with regard to the reading materials it contains: prescribed books, journals, and daily newspapers, both local and national. It also provides internet services which are provided under the NMEICT project by the Ministry of Human Resources & Development, Government of India enabling computerised learning and educative research. To complement the drinks and snacks for breakfast, lunch, and tea, a canteen is open from morning to evening, to cater for student and staff. The college also has an Auditorium which provide a centre for several activities, it acts as a place for conducting seminar, and plays a significant role in enhancing college social life. Moreover, People’s College also encourages an alumni association that aims to help alumni of the school and current students make connection.

People’s College, Mokokchung confines its undergraduate programmes to the purely arts domain and offers a limited list of them. The college offers six full-timers, including BA General and five honours – English, Education, Economics, History and Political Science. Each of these programmes is planned to take duration of three years and in the end of each programme, students can get the deep knowledge in their chosen subject. Although no quantitative barrier is set as to the number of student seats for each course, total student strength of the college is 111 and therefore the education atmosphere of the college is restricted and compact.

In the case of People’s College Mokokchung the admission process is aimed to be very simple and easily understandable for the students. Some of the requisites to admission are not outlined but, most affiliated colleges are known to operate under their parent university policies. Generally, students are selected afresh with admission being given in an academic track depending on their performance on the 10+2 examinations with emphasis on subjects that will be specifically applied in specific course that the students have taken. From 40% to 60% of the college does not provide any entrance examination required for admissions and therefore admission might be by merit in previous performance.

People’s College, Mokokchung is one of the institution that remains relevance in the provision of higher education in Nagaland where students are given chance to further their studies in various humanities disciplines at the Undergraduate level. Therefore, the college has various facilities as well as various focused subject areas within its curriculum to afford a conducive environment for learning and development.
