Prime College of Education, Nagapattinam was started in the year 2007 and is one of the foremost institution imparting teacher education in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Situated at Kokur Salai, Kilvelur this is an affiliated college accredited by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) that governs the standard of education provided in the college well. Prime College of Education currently offers two full-time course: The present study focuses its attention on the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) programme and D.EL.Ed programme. This programme has been approved to admit 100 students and is in consonance with the institutions’ policy of containing class sizes in its bid to deliver quality education. The course of B.Ed is carried to provide necessary knowledge and skills to be possessed by the individuals in the stream of teachers. The overall number of graduates, however, is not known; the college has a total enrolment of 197 students, students whom are involved in the field of teacher education.

The admission in Prime College of Education is centralise on merit from the policies of the state government, Union Territory administration and the affiliated university. All candidates are given admission subject to the marking attained in the qualifying examination and or entrance examination. This wide ragisteration prevents the loophole of having less motivated and capable persons to be admitted into the B.Ed programme. Unfortunately, information regarding scholarship as per certain criteria is not available but with much probability the college has many avenues through which it is able to support deserving students financially.
