Affiliated college of G.U located in Guwahati, Assam get its existence in the year 1998 with the name of Province College. Located at Siva Path, Dr. R.P. Road, Dispur; this institution has been in the service of educating the people of the region for more than two decades now. It is duly recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) for providing qualitative education in the stream of teacher training. The student enrollment for Province College is 517 and it has 16 faculties and the courses offered in the college are generalized and offered in many specialisation areas. The college includes state of the art facilities that are supposed to improve the learning environment of the students. 

A fully equipped library in form of a knowledge centre makes the students easily access most of their academic requirements. For those interested in the modern technologies the college provides great IT facilities that let the students progress in the field of information technologies. Departmental laboratories contribute to pragmatic understanding of subjects as learning occurs physically unlike in theory. Province College also focuses on concerns to do with student welfare through provision of a health unit which contains a first aid department. For students who like to hit the gym, there is a gym facility well equipped on campus. A canteen is important for serving foods to administrations and students a guest house / waiting room is equipped for the intentions of a waiting room for visiting the faculty and student family members to feel at home when visiting the institution. 

At the present, Province College is imparting 7 courses under four degree programmes, thus gives students a possibility to select courses of their choice. All the courses offered are full time and can be usually a best fit for students who do not want to opt for online learning as a part of their curriculum. One of the principal values of the college relates to teacher education which is reflected in its B. Ed programme that has a recognized student capacity of 100 students. Although the college wise number of seats offered for all type of courses have not been provided and you know it clearly that the total student intake for all course are 517 which has the prospected to create a good student faculty ratio which is likely to lead to a good nerve contact between the students and the faculty members.

The admission criteria in Province College is mostly competitive, this can attributed to the schools focus on the achievement of the students. Except in a handful of cases, such as B.Com and assorted BA Honours in Assamese, Education, English, and Political Science, final admission is made based on merit, left to the discretion of the Principal. In this way, the college maintains its high academic level and offers the opportunities for the deserving students. The B.Ed programme though has the same idea, but the processes followed are in a little bit different manner. 

The admission to this course is done by giving the necessary weight age for the marks obtained in the qualifying examination or entrance examination as per the norms of the state government and university. This strategy is workable through using and combining all these approaches, the college can be able to select the candidates, who perform well academically and are also fit to be teachers.
