PTR College of Engineering and Technology is one of the rapidly growing engineering colleges located in Madurai and was started in the year 2001. Sri Meenakshi Government Trust established the college in Thangapandiyan Nagar, AIIMS Road, Austinpatti, Madurai, and the college occupies a vast area of 26.31 acres. PTR College of Engineering and Technology being an affiliated college recognises the guidelines set by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) hence providing standards quality education. The institute offers several engineering programmes for 264 student and has a faculty strength of 46. For this reason, the college has earned the reputation of a technical institution of the area, especially for engineers.

Several amenities are available at PTR College of Engineering and Technology. The college library is adequately stocked with books, information sources with total 6,800 titles and 20,000 volume. It also has subscribed to e-journals, 56 national journals and 56 international journals that make students have adequate facilities to allow them to do research. The campus has contemporary laboratories and workshops augmented with modern technologies apart from theory knowledge. To improve the student convenience, the college provided both boys hostel and girls hostel to accommodate the students comfortably. The institution also considers health, hence, providing students with the facilities in sports and prohibitive gym to make sure that health is kept. A canteen is provided for feeding the staff and students. The institution also has an amphitheater whereby their different functions such as seminars are held. The college also makes provision for information technology breaks with Wi-Fi internet connection available in classes, a library, a college auditorium, a canteen, and hostels.

PTR College of Engineering and Technology has a full range of academic programmes and courses on offer. There are 9 full time BE programmes offered by the institute, each of which is of four years duration. Among these programmes include Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and so on. The overall capacity approved for the entire course is 135 and the distribution of the specialisations is as follows: 30 applicants for each course with an exception of the Electrical and Electronics engineering which has only 15 places. Such courses enable students to pursue their course of study in specialisation fields of their choice. Since the college offers full-time, regular courses the student is fully trained and offered thorough education in his or her field of discipline.
