Sahodaran Ayyappan Memorial College of Education, Poothotta, started in 1995, is a reputed college treating Teacher education with importance. This is a coeducational college at Ernakulam, Kerala, which is affiliated with the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). Located on a 5 acre plot, the college provides a study atmosphere for those preparing for a profession in pedagogy. The college offers the students excellent student-teacher ratio whereby the college has 206 students and 16 well-trained faculty members.

Sahodaran Ayyappan Memorial College of Education has many facilities are available in the college that strike to develop the learning experience. A library containing books worthy of approximately 10,000 sets together with fifteen journals and twenty-one periodicals to fulfill the needed study material resources. The institution also has specialisation in certain laboratories such as Language Laboratory, Technology Laboratory, Psychology Laboratory, Physical Science Laboratory, and Natural Science Laboratory. All of these facilities provide students with practical experience and real-life knowledge which modifies their theoretical knowledge. To make students comfortable, the college has provided hostel accommodations with adequate facilities within the college compound. It also has a computer laboratory with internet connection where students can learn various necessary computer skills that are necessary in the current college and university learning.

Sahodaran Ayyappan Memorial College of Education is concerned with core programmes and the college’s main stream programme of study is the Bachelor of Education. This includes a fully developed programme to be runned for the full time taking two years and the institution has an approved capacity to admit one hundred students. To this end, the B.Ed course is structured to provide knowledge skills and practical session suitable for teaching practices. At present, the college only has degree programme to cater, but through different academic and co-curricular activities, students are exposed to a complete educational experience.

B.Ed. course offered by Sahodaran Ayyappan Memorial College of Education follows centralised allotment system formulated by the Government of Kerala for admissions to the course. This allows merit seats to be filled in a-square and competitive manner. Apart from functional academics, the college provides a variety of ways of the students’ development through affording several clubs and activities. The Commerce Club offers student to put in practice real business situations and the Social Science Club maintains  harmony as well as creativity. To develop interest outside classroom Curriculum Mathematics Club undertakes extra-curricular activities. The Language Club is mainly concerned with language capability and literary pursuits. Through the Nature Club, consisting of the Eco Local Action (ELA), students are educated on issues concerning environment protection and development.
